COVID-19 / Coronavirus

This fromBill Gates in 2018.

Trump defunded all areas of Health to save money and did not replace the people who left that could help deal with a pandemic. He has been in direct contact with people who have COVID-19 and refuses to be tested. The court-jester is in charge.

Fools and Money.... by oath I hope the AFL is better.

Please let the AFL go ahead. If it doesn't I’ll have to turn to on-line games ... or having sex... and frankly, I cannot afford either.

If everyone gets stuck at home the internet speeds will be shizen with everyone simultaneously streaming tv. Online gaming is probably not an option 😉

A great interview from KFAN in Minnesota of the president of the Mayo Clinic Labs. Leave it to a sports journalist to get the most informative interview out there.

Here's the non alarmist bits I've gathered.
The success stories for being able to turn the tide quickly on the virus have done so on the back of two things.
Testing.
Forced or self-inflicted isolation.
Testing is great, it gives you the target you can focus on. But unless you have governments willing to enforce strict and authoritarian measures, and a populace who will accept them, you will instead have countries that drag their feet hoping for a path of 'least' affected lifestyle that will only allow severe restrictions AS the dangers grow.
Unfortunately with that second system, you allow a large build up of infection and associated strain on systems to gain foothold and then play defense the rest of the way.

When China's national govt took over from Wuhan local governance, they forced testing, they forced tracking, and they enforced quarantine. When people left their home in unauthorised manner they were rounded up and quickly taken back. It was simps and highly effective. The government also brought to bear incredible clarity of purpose in the building of localized infrastructure to treat patients and an unrelenting will to not waver.
When South Korea got serious, and they did so in a glorious and proactive way, they too tested like crazy but were able to engender a national will and coalesce behind a path of action such that people participated with enormous commitment because they believe in their government and authorities having their best interests at heart. The infected willingly took GPS with them so that others could see online where pockets of infected populations were and avoid them. Stirring and selfless stuff!

Israel just recently went down this path and have closed malls and eateries and anything that's not a supermarket or pharmacy. It's a country that has faced existential moments and dangers so numerously over it's history that it's people are ready and willing and accepting of taking national directive when survival has been of concern. Other European countries with similar right wing governments seem more at ease with imposing on the population stingent regulations. It's less well understood if the populations in those countries embrace having that decision making made for them, or are simply conditioned to not challenge it....

Here in the States, while there has been a big reaction, many still want to do locally as they wish. Travel as they wish. Etc.

Where will Australia fall? There's still time because of the staggered nature of the diseases encroachment on populations, that if Oz chose right now to close EVERYTHING, get people to collect groceries from supermarkets while inside their cars, NOT visit one another but use phone and Skype and Facetime, and truly self isolate, you could walk out of this in 4-6 weeks with no new cases being reported, far far fewer deaths, and the possibility of not having to struggle through managing the outbreak over a prolonged period through winter.
Business would still get banged really badly, but that's going to happen regardless. The question is how quickly can people get back to life and the movement of money that keeps major recession and darkness out of peoples lives.
Borders will be closed for at least 4 months, other countries are even further down the staggered chain than Australia and the wave will hit South America, Africa, and other places just as some countries are getting out of the worst of it.

I know what I'd suggest, but I wonder if you just had the right Prime Minister or leadership and they were able to word the story right for the population, whether you couldn't all pull together like South Korea for a relatively small period of time so as to avoid the very worst of the crisis? It would take some great oration, but it's possible.

Anyway, aint happening here in the US. We will lurch from small to medium to major measures as we watch the ravages grow. They're just built that way here that there is no National conscience, just a collective of 50 mini countries with people who don't like getting told what to do.

We wont be sending our 4 yo to kinder this week and I get the feeling she wont be going back for a while.

We have also opted not to attend a nieces birthday today , my wife's sister has followed suit too . No doubt we will be copping some 'panic' ' over the top' commentary from the others.

At this stage we will still attend work until advised otherwise .

I get a feeling in the next few days there will be further announcements on tighter lock down.

Had a big discussion at work on Friday about working from home. Been told to take laptops home every day, just in case the call comes in to stay away. Whilst it is still elective, some are taking up the option. My boss is so I think I will follow suit. We operate all day via teleconference to India and Malaysia so nothing will change really, except I will not have to sit next to anybody coughing and spluttering on the bus.

Local food outlets are suffering big time. The Toby's Estate coffee shop at work generally goes through 20Kg of beans per day - around 600+ cups. They are now only selling a fraction of that.

**** knows how I’ll be able to work from home. I have clients at court all next week. But the courts will likely close or people will skype in. No idea

Yeah, I expect a lot of people simply cannot work from home. Good luck with that, mate. Maybe wear a mask? If you can get one.

Yep , Im an onroad consultant . Could do 25% of my job remotely but that's it so it's not feasible.
Im expecting to get a lot of rescheduled apps starting this week though.

We started precautions last week , basically we won't attend an app if the client or family member have been o/s or interstate or if they have shown sickness
Its all we can do for now .

Here in Philippines... domestic flights are cancelled into Manila, schools have been closed for weeks and remain closed, Manila is surrounded by checkpoints and you need to have a work purpose and IDs to get in.... tonight we start a 8pm to 5am curfew.... nobody allowed on the streets.

In the next couple of days they are going to close malls. Only food shops and chemists will be allowed to open.
Gatherings are not allowed. Except church. And there are rules about social distancing even enforced in church.

Buses, taxis and jeepneys now have rules on how many people they can carry. 25% of normal capacity.

We are doing a presentation Friday , nothing huge but around 30 clients.
Head presenter is coming in from Sydney but via Brisbane ( doing one there too ) for it.
Will be interesting to see what the head honchos do , play on or pull the plug on it. Surely some risk involved I would have thought.

I've just heard we've had some major expos cancelled that were coming next month.

So, let me get this straight. The govt are telling me to avoid family gatherings but are happy for me to spend 5 hours a day in close contact with a class of 30 kids? (Not to mention the other 600+ kids at our school)
