With the history of Coronaviruses being hit quick lose their strength and peter out I don't think it will be necessary to cancel the season. This virus does not act like SARS or MERS but the fact is the warmer the weather the slower the spread. If COVID 19 follows the path of every other Coronavirus it will simply disappear quite soon. As the North goes into Summer and if the South stays reasonably warm through April the chances are it will disappear.

Hoping that is the case.

If you shut down the whole country by saying sat home and quarantine every international for 14 days i doubt this thing is going away
Actually it probably will. The thing is it needs new incubation or it dies. Unlike the Flu virus which is incredibly resilient and can live in water Aircon for up to 6 months Coronaviruses tend to die far quicker.

Have you noticed Australia has only had 250 cases with very little effort to contain the virus put into place by the Federal government. Yet European countries have seen it spread to thousands in the same period. This is because of the fact Europe is cold and even though Aus is in Autumn it is still pretty warm. Coronaviruses thrive in colder climates.

I'd pray to whatever entity you believe in, and if you are an atheist beg the Universe and science, that it keeps warm

Whilst true, precious coronaviruses appear to have had shorter incubation periods.

They were easier to identify as contagion started 24 hours prior to symptoms.

This appears to be contagious for a longer period prior to symptoms and therefore is more difficult to control and identify cases.

Up until recently tests have only been carried out on links with overseas travel into Australia. It is really an unknown as to community spread. If you were outside of these parameters you either didn’t get tested or had to pay (a person on a group had this scenario and was told the price was $600).

There is also a shortage of particular chemicals that are used for the testing in Australia.

South Korea on the other hand is testing everyone and anyone for free. Thus they have picked up heaps of cases with a much superior testing model.

I guess if there’s a lot out there untested but with it, at least the mortality percentage is lower

Coal industry saves the day

It likely is. But hospitalisation rates seems around the 10% mark. Lots of cases sees our health system get smashed.

A nurse at my local hospital told me they have 20 incubator beds but only enough nurses to support 5 of them.

Fun times ahead...

No chance IMO. This will be a months-long ordeal that I wouldn't expect to peter out until perhaps August. You realise we are heading into flu season, with an incompetent government, and a population that will not fall into isolation lines as easily as China or South Korea?

Lets revisit this post in 3 weeks and see what has happened. Number of cases in Aus is rapidly increasing in spite of our warmer weather

The weather argument is wishful thinking imo,

The growth rate of the virus is almost the same around the globe,

I mentioned in another comment, Australia isn't 'doing a good job', Australia is a month behind.

Warmer weather? It's like ******** Indonesia here in Perth with this humidity. Which is equally as bad. That means a general sticky-ness that is not conducive to great hygiene.

Training in 10s but on game day can have 44 run around ....

It's a piss take honestly

Seems a lot of boomers at
Least down here are like fu** it, just get on with life

Guess they don’t mind what happens

Which would be fine but what if someone they knew did mind and didn't want the virus? Or have a weak immune system that said nonchalant boomer didn't know about?

So much not yet known about the virus. We assume it is seasonal but that is just an assumption. If it takes hold in March as it’s doing then April will be cooler meaning I can’t see it resolving that early. As I understand it a QLD research institution has used two existing drugs (HIV and malaria respectively) and each has killed the virus. Next step is to test which works better and then use in frontline treatment in hospitals. The serious cases can then receive this treatment. At that point the death rate will cease. We just have to survive for 4 months app my guess.
