That doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.........

It's by far and away the most effective model actually. Having spent time in Singapore, it't not a bad thing to base decisions on what they do.

Close schools who looks after the kids? What happens if a parent is a nurse etc. they can’t work so less people in the hospitals assisting. Singapore didn’t close schools.
Close the schools for how long?
We're not following what Singapore did. They didn't close schools but they did make it easy for people to get tested and kept anyone test positive at the hospital until they were clean - we're sending them home and back into the community. It's not apples with apples. Singapore also acted quickly, Australia is acting so slowly on this.

I think we can all agree there really isn’t a right way

it’s not like we can copy last time it happened here

it’s possibly going to be different state to state city to City

and wether we like it or not there’s a Health and economic balance

no good saving everyone and then all being destitute

What do you want to do?

(not saying you are wrong just curious)

Well the schools have been diligent on this outbreak since January prior to school starting. You say we are acting slowly but then you have no idea what period schools should he closed for? If in fact it really benefits. There is a clear case it will be detrimental. So how do you know we acting slowly?

Exactly I'd rather try it this way first. Closing schools has been 10 times worse

Crazy idea

isolate vulnerable people and sick people and people take responsibility for their well being

imagine missing a year of education for kids that will be great

the northern hemisphere are approaching end of school year so it’s a bit different

imo

If we want to keep schools open as you said hospitals need to be ramped up so positive cases are stopped from going back into the community. Given we haven't done this I don't know how we would be able to house all positive cases now (why I say we've acted too slowly). Currently cases aren't slowing down and we're increasing by 10% per day - had we acted sooner we could have contained this.

We should go into lock down for a min of 2 weeks IMO (at least where the outbreaks are) schools included. The purpose is to get everyone tested following how South Korea approached it. Then when you get a positive test you cannot leave the hospital until it's cleared.

Yes it's pretty drastic but that's the approach I'd take. It lines up with some of the successful countries responses (Korea primarily) or how others have sent the numbers back down (Wuhan once they got a hold of it)

Also yes this would defiantly have affects on the economy - we're already seeing effects without taking these actions - but surely a shitty 3 weeks is better than really dragging this out across the next few months?

You could be right mate thanks for answering

I guess the issue is a 3 week lockdown may change nothing much as it’s not going to be every single person anyway etc

then you come out and have the bug plus economic issues to a greater degree

but maybe you are right

perhaps if we had more hospital infrastructure to begin with?

If you enter Singapore today, your'e given a mandatory 14 day quarantine period at home.

The government has isolated the local cases, (There are around 20 new cases a day here), but it is in no way allowing foreigners or even returning citizens to be the 'Covid Colin'.

They are way more pro-active than the Australian government.

Don't think a mask would be helpful incase somebody spluttered all over you when out in public?

The mask isn't to protect 'you'. It's to protect those who are most at risk.

Tasmania have copied Singapore it seems then

Heh, Tasmania has a natural protection force, from just being Tasmania, nobody wants to go there anyway :P

People need to know the difference between a lockdown and a curfew. On a brighter note, I must go to Coles tomorrow, should be fun!

Hey happy with that right now Just ship the toilet paper over and leave it at the dock

Bloody tourist got diagnosed then flittered off to Hamilton Island.
said she didn't understand the self isolation instructions. She's English btw.

These people need to get thrown out the country and if not, then after recovery jailed and fined.

just dump them in the ocean

And this is why we need to lock down the country. And ban unnecessary travel.

Because people are fracking idiots

we need to let idiots rot more and stop trying to save them
