Maybe but can you actually trust people with less restrictions. Doubtful.

Actually don’t think the restrictions are that bad anyway

Wuhan are reopening you realise? But you want a lockdown here indefinitely

There is no vaccine for SARS and that first broke out 17 years ago. If your plan is a lockdown, plan for a very long one.

Next case study for anyone this hasn't quite hit home for yet: Bali. Bali has a population of over 4 million and 80% of its GDP comes from tourism. There was already extensive poverty in Bali before these lockdowns. How many people will suffer as a result of 80% of the island's GDP being destroyed?

Many of those 12 million people will have zero income for 12-18 months. They are not receiving a $1500 fortnightly JobKeeper payment. How many deaths will there be in Indonesia, especially Bali, as a result of these lockdowns?

It is astonishing arrogance and delusion to sit snug in your houses and say lets shut down society. What we are doing right now will have devastating consequences for hundreds of millions of people. More people may die in India as a result of Modi's lockdown than will die in the entire world as a result of COVID-19

Be great being locked down in 10 months when we are all homeless

Never said indefinitely. Just until anti-viral drugs are available, which should be mid year some time.

But you can’t know that

It's a reasonable guess so to speak. These are a lot easier in general as history has shown to develop. We can't just go back to normal without containing this virus.

Ok so let’s say you get to June 30 and you have no medication yet

then what?

or say September or whenever job keeper ends , people have no more extensions on mortgages and have mass unemployment

you don’t have any medication that treats it

still locked down?

How is it a reasonable guess? Please list the effective anti-viral treatments for SARS and how long they took to develop.

You of course know that COVID-19 is linked to SARS, and you know that SARS started in 2003.

Then you extend it for a month. Honestly it will get easier. I'd rather relax business restrictions before going out of a lockdown anyway

Well we aren’t actually locked down technically

I would have thought if the curve flattens and it’s even starting too but I would say you need 2 weeks to a month data

then you release some restrictions and test then release more and more and so on

aren’t we trying to not overrun the hospitals ?

Most experts, and by enlarge I trust these experts do believe an anti viral drug/medicine will be out sometime in the mid year, when that mid year is, who on earth knows. I'm not in any rush anyway, my work is mobile anyway. As long as the NFL starts on time I'm all good.

This weekend is the big test to see if people can actually be trusted. If the curve stays the same this weekend, you may see some restrictions lifted (cafe's, gyms, etc)

Yeah so self interest wins out

which is fine it’s true for us all at the end of the day

same as people calling for mass lockdowns don’t just quit their job and bunker up generally because they want to be paid and looked after to do it

Life is self interest. Whilst everyone says otherwise, you'll always look after yourself and your loved ones first and foremost.

Absolutely
Just people pretend they aren’t

Well despite his best efforts to conceal it, Parker could not have appeared less keen on the quarantine hub idea. Throw it in the trash where it belongs.

If it’s only him the AFL can work around it. Reality is nothing will be on till July anyway so they are just throwing up a million ideas to try to get footy going. Personally don’t mind the hub idea

Yes it's only Parker. He's such a weirdo like that

I can’t see that one happening , but I guess if it’s the only option and the year is passing the players will conveniently change their mind

Attitudes can change pretty quickly. If they approach him in 2months and say "you'll get a bonanza but you have to play football away from your family for 6 weeks" you might find he's keener to the idea by then.

Bingo wouldn’t be surprised if this is a leveraging tool and not much more
