I follow him closely. He was dropped on his head as an infant I'm certain of it.

Make no mistake about it the guy is a tyrant and a ******* idiot. And yes, it's possible to be both, because his tyranny stems from his ego, not his ambitions. His ego actually undoes a lot of his ambitions.

The closing of borders to China was a half-baked attempt to look productive (common sense would suggest blocking China would not block the virus from entering the US at all, given it had already spread around the world by that point.) He then claimed the virus was a hoax crafted by the Democrats, spoke to the American people and diminished the threat of the virus, claimed non-existent vaccines and cures existed (that ultimately led to several deaths), he only did a back-flip once his advisors suggested framing himself as a wartime President, and he used a press conference that is supposed to be about advising the country during a pandemic to defend himself and show a propaganda video.

He is every bit as bad as the media reports, and worse.

That was the end of a different mindset though. In WWI bloody France still wore bright red and blue clothes and walked in formation down an open road. Then with modern (for the time) tech it was called "the war to end all wars" because it was such a tragedy.

Then the next time Hitler had to be stopped. If there was a modern Hitler trying to nuke everyone I suspect war attitudes might change

You can’t possibly think that? Trump being perfect for anything!! His narcissism has killed tens of thousand Americans. And now it’s reached the peak he wants to open for business again!!! which will kill tens of thousands more.

What about the consequences of not re-opening? I suggest following Michael Burry on Twitter (as swansfan51 suggested a few pages back) for his excellent analysis of the long-term effects of shutting down the economy. One of our regular posters, Millky, has lost his livelihood over this. The medical experts are there to advise the president about health risks and must be taken seriously, but it is the president's job to weigh up all the risks. I'm not going to go down the Trump rabbit hole either King, but this is one thing he does get (IMO).

Yep but that change in attitude is how the world changes for the better and we become a more civilised society, unlike 2000 years ago where my namesake was able to just enter any given region and slaughter every person in sight and make the land his own.

I'm just grateful to still have a job. I genuinely feel awful for those who have lost their jobs and just wish there was something I could do to help, but I'm just trying to hang on to my own job at the moment as I'm technically still on probation - we've been told there are no plans for job cuts but given how quickly things can change, anything is possible.

Similar for me I started here in December, switched to working from home

had the week off was good, but yeah working and doing my stuff, but job is made harder as clients struggle and yes seeing others struggling big time is hard, start to worry a few won’t make it to be honest

I have to admit I wouldn’t be out and about much but there is a feeling of hopelessness sometimes, if I didn’t have wife and kids around , well I can see how people get real down

I get your point Puke and I'm not disagreeing with you, and it's easy for me to say get everything open and get back to normal, I have no elderly, sick or infirmed relatives, but my point is that we need to strike the perfect balance. It's all for nought if we get the population healthy again but there's no work and the country (and world for that matter) is so broke that infrastructure is collapsing.

A drop off in economy of 6% which will rebound just as quickly and the economy pumped by $300B to sustain lost earnings. The IMF are fools if they think we are going to be worst hit. Just wrong.

I’m fortunate because tax is a constant but also I’m helping a few avoid bankruptcy so my fees aren’t impacted.......but even if they were there are literally hundreds of opportunities out there and I wouldn’t be concerned. But I’ve walked from a job to do my own thing 23 years ago without one fee or client so I don’t fear that uncertainty as most do. How does the saying go.....necessity is the mother of invention.

I’ll be selfish and say that I get paid to work reduced hours and I spend more time with my kids. I know when things settle I’ll get flogged to death at work so I’m happy to enjoy the calm before the storm.

I do need to self isolate from the fridge though. I’m grazing all day!

it’s nice to be home with kids, showing them classic simpsons, and can see them while working, though still full time hours

There's a lot to feel negative about but if you look for it, there's plenty to feel positive about as well.

I can tell you there are some bloody good people in the world. The neighbours have been dropping groceries off at the front door every few days so that my gf and I don't have to leave the house and can look after the old man without risk. Every delivery they leave a new jigsaw puzzle in the bags and a bottle of wine from one of the local wineries they think he'd like. I like to think I'm a pretty caring person but they are small things that I wouldn't even think to do. It's more than just doing a favour, it's showing genuine compassion and care that he's in good spirits during this time, and they don't even know him!

On a light hearted note I've binge-watched the holy trinity of comedies in Seinfeld, Friends and the Office from start to finish. (Pop did not approve of the Office - very confused as to why it's a handheld camera style and why there is no laugh track; evidently not a fan of cringe humour.)

Tell pop to rewatch The Office, took me a while to "get it", now I think both versions of it are brilliant, though I favour the American one as just looking at Steve Carrell makes me laugh.
Our current way of living does seem to be bringing out the best in most people, unfortunately the opposite can be said for many others, then again that's pretty much the world all the time unfortunately.

They were telling young men to go to war for a few years to get a chance at being killed & many lied about their age just to 'make the cut'.

Now all they are being told is to do is to stay home to have a better chance to keep themselves & others safe for a few months/weeks.

People don't want to understand this. Coronaviruses were first discovered 80 years ago, there has never been a vaccine. Throwing lots of attention and money at a virus does not guarantee a vaccine - see HIV and Malaria.
