An argument has been posited by the pro economy cabal that people will top themselves as a result of job losses and economic trauma. Cafe style eggs Benedict and adequate stockpile supply of toilet paper are a nice luxury but their absence it seems hardly a motivation for drastic self harm. Whatever we confront economically at days end we need to rely upon welfare and self regulation of emotions together with practical plans of mitigation. Always a case of dealing with it by necessity. Go figure. Of course that’s a little more difficult to do if we are instead dead from the runaway train confronting us with the virus unchecked- 3.5% of population Fortunately the people at the helm with the levers know this and are playing a role. Well mostly except the idiot in charge of QLD who can’t seem to function for hysterical fear.

Perhaps the most disturbing ‘reach’ personally is because I’m rational rather than irrational that I have a victim complex. I’ll ponder that. Smh. Quite a bit obscure that revelation and connection. Anyone struggling to get a job I’ve heard that there are plenty of seasonal fruit picking jobs on offer.....can’t find people. No backpackers. Take 6 months off and go on a fruit picking holiday. Could be fun

Btw your home is safe because the banks have generously frozen mortgage payments, but guess what when that ends you'll still owe them and more than likely the value of your house has dropped so your equity if you had any is now gone.

So does a single parent who worked at a local coffee shop that has now closed down just tell the kids sorry you need to move school, were off to the nearest orchard which happens to be 150km away. Moving house is obviously free in your fantasy world puke, but for the above nominated person( which isn't me) it comes at a massive cost. But like you said it might be fun.

The description used was ‘crippling’. That having $7500 added to your mortgage when you hadn’t paid it would be crippling. likewise too having to adapt your employment choices. ffs I think all you people WANT this to be crippling rather than adapt easily as we all must to our respective circumstances. There has been a 7% downturn in June qtr - recession, but the signs are there immediately lockdowns are completely lifted the economy will go gangbusters. The Stockmarket is always ahead of the economy in reflection of economic confidence and sentiment. And the Stockmarket is surging forward. Not surprising given the welfare handouts and hundreds of billions of dollars pumped in by Govt. We just need to hold the line with an ounce of positivity. For some that is a step too far. I shake my head honestly. Wallow then......just leave me out of it.

I might go on a 6 month fruit picking holiday adventure. Could be fun. Not everyone’s cup of tea I’ve heard.

At least the season wasn’t in lockdown altogether. If there was no season this thread would have reached biblical proportions.

Something very satisfying about watching these people trying to camouflage their “Greed is Good” with literary gymnastics that would humble Nadia Comaneci.
To see them maintaining their mastery of pandemics that is sure to be applicable in some parallel universe where world leaders will sit back and say “Maybe we’ll listen to the anti-lockdown guys on Big Footy for the next pandemic?”.... cherry-picking irrefutable statistics that are easily refuted by your average primary schooler... drawing super-long bows to devalue our over 60s because their skin will start peeling off soon.... basing their moral code on the teachings of the worlds greatest economists... projecting QAnon conspiracy theories as substantial facts suppressed by MSM.... promoting their individual rights as being far more important than ensuring the common good... condemning those of us that just make whatever we can from a horrid situation, as being passive and subservient to democratically elected officials.... dismiss as ridiculous people that have enough foresight to set aside reserves to get them thru this type of situation... all while expressing their newfound but “genuine“ concern for those less fortunate and protesting the
