78% of people who die or are hospitalized from Covid are overweight.

So anywhere there is a vaccine mandate, there should be a diet and exercise mandate.

Whilst that figure sounds bad that 78% isn't that far off the percentage of overweight in the entire population though.

A quick google search turned up about 70% of the population is overweight or obese.

https://www.healthline.com/health/obesity-facts

But I do agree with your sentiments that there should be a bigger focus on diet and exercise.

I would suggest around 78% of all hospital admission are overweight people.

Unhealthy habits is a huge problem.

Andrews vows to reopen despite record cases by Patrick Durkin Oct 14, 2021 – 3.03pm

"Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has vowed to reopen next week, despite the state reporting a national record for daily COVID-19 cases and fears undetected community transmission of the virus could see cases continue to climb.

Health authorities said a “significant” jump to a pandemic high of 2,297 daily cases, as well as eleven deaths on Thursday, would “hit hard” with University of Melbourne Professor Tony Blakely recently warning that “no government (in their right mind) would release restrictions even for vaccinated people if daily cases were greater than 2,000” a day.

What do you mean?

They’ve been enforcing it for over 18 months (in part because of people like you who have accepted and supported it) so what’s another few years?

Are you saying you will stop complying? If so, when?
Many in Victoria are not complying as they have become fed up with their world record lockdown... so no chance all of Australia would remain compliant for years.

Vaccination is enough... & people who want to voluntarily wear masks can do so if they choose.

Even more reason for a diet and exercise mandate.
I don't disagree more should be done.

Have been saying for years we need to do more to encourage healthy eating & exercise. This should include taxes on unhealthy food & banning/limiting advertising designed to hook kids... but this is off topic.

Guess Dan is happy to cancel urgent as well as non urgent elective surgery...

Why do these tyrants all look the same?

Always four-eyed nerds. Always look like they were stuffed in their locker in high school.

Probably just answered my own question didn’t I.

I just came in to post the below email that came through. How does the business owner determine who is a vulnerable person? So now they must stand at the front of the shop and ask kids how old they are and then turn them away if they're under 12 and ask medical questions of everyone above that age. ******* public servants, totally clueluess and no idea of what life is like in the real world.

Dear Business Owner

The COVID-19 vaccine is our best defence against the virus and the key to protecting our vulnerable populations, our workers and our health system from being overwhelmed.

As we work to implement the NT’s Roadmap toward COVID-Safe Freedoms, it is critical that we provide our community, our businesses and our industry with certainty as we start to open up.

Today, the Chief Minister Michael Gunner announced a new CHO Direction that makes the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory for certain workers.

For those who the CHO Direction applies, in order to continue working in the same role, they must have:
  • Their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by 12 November 2021
  • Two doses (fully vaccinated) by 24 December 2021.
The CHO Direction will apply to the following:
  1. A worker who, during the course of work, is likely to come into contact with a vulnerable person
  2. A worker who is at risk of infection by COVID-19 because the worker, during the course of their work, is likely to come into contact with a person or thing that poses a risk of infection
  3. A worker whose workplaces poses a high risk of infection by COVID-19
  • A worker who performs work that is necessary for the operation of maintenance of essential infrastructure or essential logistics in the Territory.

A person is considered to be vulnerable to infection by COVID-19 if:

  1. The person is under 12 years of age
  2. The person cannot be vaccinated due to a contraindication to all approved COVID-19 vaccines
  • The person is an Aboriginal person
  • The person is at risk of severe illness from COVID-19 for medical reasons, such as being on immune suppressive therapy after an organ transplant or having chronic kidney, heart, liver or lung disease.

”COVID-safe freedoms”

That list applies to nearly every worker (1) is my read?

(1) isn't, it only relates to the defined 'vulnerable persons' per the second clause. (2) is potentially the catch all, but it's so arguable that it's ridiculous. It states that it applies to, "a worker who is at risk of infection by COVID-19 because the worker, during the course of their work, is likely to come into contact with a person or thing that poses a risk of infection". How does a business make that call. Define 'likely' in that sentence.

Even in Victoria, according to your Vic health number cruncher there are 20k active cases against 6.5m people and adding let's say 3,000 per day. Let's say there's a 2 week lag on the active cases and make that about 95k active cases. For the sake of conservatism, let ignore the % that are in hospital or properly isolating based on advice and we are left with a 2 in every 300 Victorians roaming the streets poses a risk of infection. So that would make any contact unlikely. But I hear you say, well, that is based on the a google search of the current Victorian population, you need to take into account the relative infection rates based upon the area that your business operates and interacts.

So the average family small business needs to drill down even further, assuming the required info is actually available to determine the difference between 'likely' and 'not likely'. Of course the onus is on the small business that can absorb unlimited costs imposed by government, but you couldn't possibly expect government with their unlimited resources to even understand what they're asking in a practical sense or bother to do any of the work themselves.

Well, even though I'm presently in that risk category, imagine the future savings to health costs by thinning out the fatties. Everybody wins.

Yeah, good luck enforcing this!

How would you suggest it not be enforced? If the emergency powers are enacted it gives health bureaucrats the power to require exactly this. Would you not comply and chance your arm or go next level and march on parliament? This is what has been near guaranteed all along. Hand power to risk averse lifetime public servants without question at any stage and this is the very obvious outcome.

Hollowmen did it, hilarious stuff. Snippet below.

What I'm saying is if any government were stupid enough to mandate masks for years after we are near fully vaccinated, there would be large sections of the community that would ignore the mandate.

It won't happen any way.

Aren't we already seeing people ignore rules. Should the people and businesses of Mt Gambier ignored Spurrier's brain fart given that I predicted the exact outcome immediately. As I did with the previous 2 outbreaks in our state. You seem to be happy to imply that you understand the grey, but you live in lock step with the health bureaucrats on each and every occasion.
