Shot in NZ. Pretty much a nightmare filming scenario. Had to stop work due to injury, then completely crueled by COVID interruptions when they restarted production.Holy sh*t just found out this is actually happening. Coming out in november. Trailer indicates this may be largely faithful to the material source sans Ed. Looks like it might have a decent budget too.
Watch episode 3 credits, Real Folk Blues is in that.ok just finished.
the show struggles a lot in the first half but is quite good in the end with an excellent conclusion. Seems like the show only finds it groove in those latter episodes and definately needs a second season but will enough people get through the ordinary first half to enjoy it?
actors do a good job of spike, faye, jet. Nail them actually.
the comedy is pretty decent.
hand to hand combat scenes are also pretty good.
they nail the ballad of fallen angels spike vs vicous fight scene in the church which looks even better in real life.
the fleshed out main plot involving julia, vicious and spike actually is interesting and improves on the anime which was lacking in its main story arc.
A few big twists at the end too that are intriguing.
the bounty arcs are mostly way too simple, over too quickly and full of plot holes.
not enough space action (not sure spike even fires a single shot from his space cruiser all season) - hopefully this is just a budget thing and can be fixed with a second season.
they never mention which planet or moon their on which would make it hard for a new viewer to understand the world.
vicious - whilst faye, spike and jet were nailed perfectly vicious was turned into a bit of buffoon with extreme blood lust. It comes off as a bit immature and greatly removes all the cool factor the anime version had.
Missing songs - no space lion or real folk blues but hopefully they have plans for them in a second season.
Ah missed that. Only watched a couple of credits. Didnt realise they did it on the 3rd ep.Watch episode 3 credits, Real Folk Blues is in that.
Agree with Vicious, the actor didn't sell me on it and was a weak portrayal and script for the character that he just was a basic dog with rabies.
Felt some of the audio was bit muffed as well, like songs too loud to the spoken word, spoken word too soft to ambience there was some mixing issues with it.
Overall though, it was at least a fine adaptation with expansion where required and otherwise whilst a bit ham, was in line with how the narrative and characters generally act to then be almost word for word and faithful enough. The 10 eps run kinda allowed them to be one a pop with the bounties with no real push back where the recurring options didn't feel out of place in whatever instance they found themselves in.
First half wasn't ordinary for me as it helped set up character interactions & motivations for the end "pay offs" to then at least somewhat feel connected and landed.
