Re: Collingwood suspends Davis, Cox and Egan

Disappointing if true. Not because I have a problem with players going out on the town after a match but if they were under orders then they should obey and none of them should consider themselves settled as senior players. I don’t really agree with suspending players for these things but their loss shouldn’t hurt too much and I guess a message can be sent. Good opportunity to bring Holland, Didak and a kid or Medhurst in and not have to drop winning players for form reasons.

Personally after a good win like that I think they should be encouraged to tie one on. Not the done thing these days though.

that's always an interesting poser, that one. what if it was rocca, fraser and reece shaw that went out - would they have done the same thing??? i'm not sure they would have.
Given it was the leadership group that suspended and they are the leadership group then probably not. In all seriousness I would be livid if those 3 got suspended by the club. The fact is not all men are equal and I want my club to win football matches far more than I want them to worry about the AFL’s social engineering and marketing agenda.

Interesting....and before anyone suggests I am just dirty because the Eagles are piss poor etc etc....I do applaud Collingwod for their actions.....but see below for Malthouse's comments over a more serious issue last year. So what has changed, the football landscape, or the quality of the players involved in the incident?

Malthouse: "Why would I penalise our one million supporters, our 40,000 members, our partners in sponsorship and his teammates by leaving a player out of the side?" Malthouse said at the time. "I'll say one thing about discipline and that is you've got to be very careful because there are ways and means of administering it."

A few things have changed. As you indicated the landscape as well as the importance of the players I suspect but also the trend toward player ownership of the cultural issues and in Collingwood's case, the demographic of the leadership group. It is actually a different generation when you have Fraser, Johnson and co being forced to set the example rather than Buckley and Clement and in terms of the players suspended they are more peers than junior team mates with the new leadership group and Buckley taking more back seat.

Not just if they were different players, but what would they do if it was say Rnd 22 and they needed to win the last last to say:
1) make the top 4, or
2) make the eight

Of course they wouldn't.
Do you think that the Eagles or Dockers would have suspended Cousins and Farmer if they were in the same situation?
I,some how,don't think they would.

Is it just me or is Leon beginning to run out of chances. His form is such that one game out might affect his output for the next six matches. Without knowing the exact circumstances, if it was a clear and deliberate breach of team rules, I feel particularly annoyed at him, especially in setting a poor example for the younger players (not that it excuses them at all - they are both capable of free and independent decision).

Anybody who can argue that Leon Davis has had a successful career and fulfilled his potential is a liar or a dumbass. I don't know the details of his contract but if I were negotiating new contracts he certainly wouldn't be a priority. That's not to say he isn't talented, but I am sick of being frustrated by two or three good quarters every month.

The Eagles knew in July about Cousins and they didn't suspend him. That beign said I do not blame them for not suspending him last. First and foremost they have a duty to their members to win games and have their best players play. If I was a Eagle supporter and they dropped Cousins mid season I would have been bloody dirty.

Re: Collingwood suspends Davis, Cox and Egan

We will only likely miss Davis, and he can be replaced by Holland.

OUT: Cox, Davis, Egan, ? Clement
IN: Goldsack, Holland, Wellingham/Medhurst, Wakelin

Went out after Saturday nights game against orders.

Will players ever learn

All suspended for 1 game by Collingwood on direction from leadership group.

They will play for Willy this week
i would have thought davis and egan would be more sensible given their current slender hold on a spot on the list.

From what I heard Presti was a more likely out than Clement.

On topic, disappointing from Davis, Cox and Egan. No Davis could hurt us but we can cover for the other two, especially with our ins this week...

Re: Collingwood suspends Davis, Cox and Egan

couldnt of come at a better time, we have the bye this week!
And then they say why we hate Collingwood supporters
Will Bump after Carlton beat you on the weekend.

What has changed is other players getting themselves into trouble, and it's time for clubs to make sure their players abide by the team rules, we really don't want another Tarrant/Johnson incident like last year, or even have one of them get arrested as well.

I'd think all clubs will be playing it safe from now on.

Good, no more Tarrant and Ben Johnson type shit will be tolerated.

Teach em young (apart from Leon who should have got two).

Gee, is there a culture problem down at the Lexus Centre??

That would have to be about 10 Collingwood players that have done the wrong thing by the club in the past 2-3 years.

They left the hotel after they were told to stay in. It doesn't say they went out drinking or on a bender. As far as we know they walked down to 7-11 to get a paper.

Let's not get too excited.

See it's not nice when people assume things about your footy club is it.

I'm not having a go at you, just making a point.

Ben Johnson as part of the leadership group handed out this decision. Couldnt keep a straight face apparently.
