if you could get 2.98 at fixed you'd be silly not to take it. IMO only a crap ride wills top whobegotyou. easily a class above the rest Kavanagh has him primed for this race as he does so well. Loves the Valley which is also important so Whobegotyou>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>field

I'll be heading over for the day. Appreciate everyone's views on the whole card.

MV has shown a leader-bias of late, what horses are likely to push to the front in the CP?

Kenny, I presume Seth will be running another formtalk on Friday night from 8.30pm. As for speed maps, again if you can hold off til Friday I'll post one up. However at the Valley, track bias and any weather will play a major part.

That's a tough question as there's not a lot of pace on paper. Gai's horses tend to race handy so you might get M.Rain (if he runs) going forward, maybe speed gifted--although they'll be conservative as they have melb cup in mind so they'll want him to settle....

In the cox plate they usually get going from the 800m so even if its a slow pace & bunched field i think the closers like Whobe, El Segundo, H of dreams, Vision & Power can win the race....maybe even scenic shot goes forward, really tough as no clear pace.

Biggest danger for whobe would be an inside draw & a slow pace, its not like he's been winning all his races by big margins, if he draws the inside i'd be a bit wary about taking short odds.

With the late nom of Rock Kingdom it forces them to eliminate at least one, hoping So You Think makes the cut.

Despite good NZ form, Sir Slick should be carrying the drinks!! I heard his name mentioned this morning on Melb Sport 927 that it's tough to allow a nag that came 3rd in a Bairnsdale Cup!!!

hey guys,

heading to mooney valley this weekend for the first time. I have never attended a major raceday and was wondering if it was similar to country style races in regards to what you can take in? Am I able to take food and drinks in except for alcohol?

Thanks in advance!

For me I will cheering El Segundo to the line. A real MV specialist and will do it in FOO style. I wouldn't be surprised if Zipping bob his head towards finish line in front of quite a few. Especially if the pace is a crawl. DJ_Ryan will probably unban himself and rear his ugly on the forums again and lecture us about 'I told you so'.

GROUP 1 COX PLATE (2040m)
Saturday, October 24, Moonee Valley

Market (barrier in brackets)
$2.40 Whobegotyou (10)
$7.00 Heart of Dreams (3)
$9.00 Speed Gifted (12)
$14.00 El Segundo (13), So You Think (7)
$15.00 Vision and Power (4)
$16.00 Black Piranha (8), Manhattan Rain (14)
$17.00 Zipping (2)
$18.00 Scenic Shot (6)
$26.00 Road To Rock (1)
$41.00 Nom de Jeu (5)
$151.00 Sir Slick (11)

At least the presence of Sir Slick will ensure a decent pace.

I'm looking for horses that will settle just off the speed and be strong at the end.

Scenic Shot & So You Think fit the bill.

You're right NJ!!

I think the only positive about Sir Slick gaining a start is the genuine tempo of the race. Having said this if there no other horse challenging up front, the jockey of Sir Slick could dictate the tempo ala Big Mal last year. Last year Sir Slick went out far too quick and was spent come the 600m in most of its races.

The market has it right, I can only see 3 winning chances, WBGY, Heart of Dreams and Speed Gifted.

any rain might make it really interesting. Anyone give black piranha a chance? i really like the horse but the obvious query is the 2040m

Heart of dreams looked terrific this morning, providing decent pace set, which there should be with Sir Slick, should be sitting just of the pace to get the job done over the small straight ( although with the way they run the cox plate the straight starts down past the school )

As a previous poster stated, i would be surprised if the winner came from outside the top three in betting.

Whobe & Heart of Dreams are hard to go past in my opinion, I'm slowly warming to Speed Gifted.. Whobe is no value though so if anything I'm leaning towards HOD, although the best bet for the day could be to sit this race out which will probably be what I end up doing.. My one at odds is Road to Rock..
