I did not mind him, until last week. He was pathetic. When he got the ball, I don't think he gave it to a Melbourne player once. It was shocking.
However he has played a few good games so the talent is there, but it is not produced every week.

I think he has been a good asset. Sure, he stank last week against Geelong but no-one can play great EVERY week.

He has added depth and much needed experience to the backline which has been invaluable. We are 6-4, we look okay and some of that is thanks to him.

After watching him closely in all of our games this year I can honestly say he has no footy brain whatsoever. He makes a stack of clangers from kicks out of defence, plays on when he shouldnt, loses his opponent (and himself) too often and generally struggles on a leading full forward.

But, saying that, I think it was worthwhile picking him up . He gives us another tall option in defence which was our major weakness in 2000 and can be used as the 2nd or 3rd tall instead of the #1 tall like (I think) he was doing at the Bulldogs.
I think he's best used as a spare man in defence or a player that will constantly run off his man and feed the midfielders with the footy. When he gets his kicking right and tries not to be too ambitious he can be a huge asset like we against WCE and Freo.

Agreed. He took some great contested marks in that game.

Then we have the Fremantle game where he foolishly played on with about 2 minutes to go. Sometimes he tends to not think - lack of footy smarts/poor decision making.

BPP, you are right about him playing on. I've seen him play on a couple of times this year and he has coughed it up because he puts himself under pressure, or backs himself to break tackles and doesn't.

I'm not disappointed with the trade yet. Ask me again at the end of the season and I might have a different answer.

ok, i gotta say i agree with most of that... no, i agree with all if it.
although i do think that if hes trained the right way, he could be quite good, and he hasn't been ttttooooo bad in aaalllll the matches he's played in. sure he's not fantastic, but he sure aint gerge!

That pretty much sounds like exactly what we said to you guys at the start of the season;) He is at his best IMO when he is allowed to go for his marks as he is a great athlete and has a reasonable set of mits.BPP he barely ever took the #1 tall at the doggies unless the match up suited him.Someone like Richo who he is suited to he would take but anyone else would go to Crofty or one of the others.

how tall is he actually??

I think he is actually smaller than you might think.I know at one stage he was listed at 188cm but he may have grown as the reason we picked him up was because he had a growth spurt when he was 17-18.He was a little onballer as a junior.

thanx to both of you...

he's not too tall and therefor shouldn't used as a tall defender! i don't think hes too bad, but he isn't too good either!

190 cm is tall enough to be a tall defender, sure some are 191, 192, 193... but 1 or 2 inch's doesn't make the world of difference. Nicho is 197cm, so he would gets the tallest strongest forward, and Ellis can take someone mid-size or tall if need be.

perhaps, but i wouldn't want to use him as the #1 tall defender... unless we really need to.
