If you stop to think about it, access to football clubs, identities and players is pretty important to these publications - they’re not going to risk being ‘black balled’ by Collingwood by writing something that’s a complete invention.

However - That said, I agree, an article simply stating ‘there’s a rumour’ is not exactly ground-breaking or confirmation - but to go to press on it says there’s a genuine possibility the rumour has legs.

I’d say the fire is still smouldering.

I can't believe they run a story like this.

First, they offer no proof that the rumour is true. That is, they rehash scuttlebutt, and make it a story by asserting that it is 'big' and that the whole AFL world is talking about it.

Second, even if it was true, who cares? There's no suggestion of criminal activity or coercion. It's a private matter. If you had any self-respect as a journalist, why would you run with that story when at least some the people involved (especially a middle-aged spouse) who would want privacy at such a time?

Very poor form, media.

What I was saying was disputing your point that this rumour has some credibility simply because the HS reported on it.

I think we both agree, the HS is a pile of shit & the club has come out with a statement addressing these rumours. Not much different to what Port & Rozee did when similar bs was being spread about him.

Regardless of how biased the Murdoch rags are, their journos are very good networkers - that is why I think if something like this comes up, there’s some possibility of there being something in it - discounting it out of hand is just wishful thinking by supporters of Collingwood.
