I didn't see a promotion for him anywhere within our structure and I think that role has a shelf life so it seemed a logical move for club and coach.

There was also a nagging doubt put in my head by someone that he was too chummy with the players. Normally I wouldn't have paid much mind to it because the snippets I got at VFL matches seemed positive, but this person knows their shit so I took it on board.

Overall I don't have anything overtly negative to say about him so I'm happy to wish him well in his next role.

In terms of a replacement I'd love to poach the coach of the Bulldogs 2014 VFL premiership. I think he was promoted to their senior panel for 2015 though so it might be a hard sell.

I'm not sure you need to see it that way. Guys in his position don't want to be development guys forever. If they have ambitions of going further they need to move around a bit and experience different clubs. 5 years is a good stint imo in the job he's had, so it's not surprising that he wants to seek out a new notch for his belt. Doesn't need to be seen as him necessarily wanting to get out of Collingwood for any other reason than his own development imo
That's just the nature of footy coaching. 5 years is plenty as you say. Unless we knew that staff were walking because Bucks was an unconscionable arsehole I wouldn't worry. The likes of Neeld, Scott, Richardson, the list goes on... they've all left the club for opportunities elsewhere. Scott Burns has been interviewing for senior jobs for a while. I don't think it matters much in terms of our club if they are moving laterally or being promoted... As we saw with Neeld that's not exactly going to be the right call anyway. What they all have in common is that they have moved on to build the portfolio or seek a new environment/challenge. Hell if I had my way Alan Richardson would still be our development coach.

As a supporter I'm just interested in who the replacement is.

I heard Chris Newman is taking over from McRae.

If true, I think he'll be a good appointment.

Edit.... My source suffers from senility!
