Turley had extraordinary endurance and aerobic fitness which seemed to be the key to his game -he just kept going and going and wore a lot of his opponents into the ground.

Nicely skilled without being in the Dean Kemp class, very good reader of the play and good at stoppages.

He hit Greg Williams and missed a GF? Should have got a fricken brownlow for hitting that pr#$K. And Williams should have been suspended instead for being a dirty sniper and generally bringing the game into disrepute. Then, if not a medal for Turls, at least Matera would have won a brownlow

Williams gave Turls 3 shy whacks to the stomach behind the play before Turls settled up with him. I was stunned that he wasn't sighted at the time. Such a dirty player.

Typical Collingwood business.

If you guys remember, Turley quit footy to search for his birth mother (Turley was adopted), he liked a surf, but i dont think you could say he gave it up to do that and just bum around. By his own admission his heart was somewhere else and he had things in his life he needed to address. For guys who have actually played at AFL level eventually you get to a point where you realize that footy isnt the be all and end all you think it is when your starting out, and that if your heart isnt it then you owe it to your club, your mates and yourself to walk away.

Very true.

friend of mine was talking with Turls recently and the comment made was that, while he loved footy, he just couldn't stand all the bull******** that went with it. Didn't like the city and particularly didn't like Melbourne apparently.

There are things in life that are much more important than footy....

......... although i can't think of any just at the moment

Yeah Melbourne was never gonna work for Turley. Its a shame really, because Craig Turley is an absolutely champion bloke. When you think back to the kind of media attention he got in Perth, and this was when it was still a one team town, its just crazy because he is absolutley the type of person who hates that type of attention, and its no wonder he took a break. What makes it worse was some of the rumors that floated around regarding why he left the club, which were false. Turley wanted to know 'who he was' by finding his birth mother, and took time out to do that. Came back and didnt have the hunger left, end of discussion.
