I have an irrational belief that recurs every time I need to buy a small random household item, eg, a computer mouse/bathroom scales/hammer/set of phillips head screwdrivers, kettle, lint brush, basically any household item you can practicably carry in one hand.

packs of cards... seriously the most standard household item that's impossible to find where to buy...

1. That players and staff of the Richmond Football Club won't get their September annual leave this year :thumbsu:

2. That if you bend over and bang your head on the floor whilst facing a black square box 5,000 miles away, and repeat same process 5 times a day, you will go to some nirvana blessed with 1,000 virgins when you cark it.

It's would be more irrational to not believe that aliens are out there somewhere. There are countless planets and galaxies.
Exactly. 10 billion odd stars in our galaxy and 10 billion odd galaxies in the universe, believing Earth has the only life in the universe is the crazy option.

Now if you believe they are coming here and anal probing drunk American farmers you've crossed the line into tin foil hat country.

Exactly. 10 billion odd stars in our galaxy and 10 billion odd galaxies in the universe, believing Earth has the only life in the universe is the crazy option.

Why? You look at Earth's history - for 90% of it's history there was basically no life. It must have taken a lot of 'perfect' coincidences for life to arise.

But it did arise, so those coincidences - whatever they were - happened. But even on Earth, the rise of life was a very long shot. And reasonably intelligent life even more so. But we don't know how long the odds were.

I understand about probabiliies - big numbers, and the fact that we know life has arisen at least once means it should happen again. But when you get down to the probability levels we are talking, you really can't say.

I would not surprised if life was discovered elsewhere. But I would equally not be surprised if (somehow) it was shown that Earth IS the only place in the universe where life exists (I understand that we will almost certainly never know that for sure - but hypothetically).

I don't think you can hold a strong position on this one way or another. If I had to guess - well, I'd be guessing.

That the world will end in 2012.

Good one. I often wonder what people will be like the day before, if they will start looting and everything.

As an OT I can tell you that ultrasound (the gel and hand held thing) used by physiotherapists to heal injuries is complete, utter total horsecrud. It literally does next to nothing. Its just an excuse to rip off patients. The evidence to support it is very weak.

Might be confused about what you are talking about here but isn't the ultrasound only used to source an image of an injury? Who said that ultrasounds were supposed to heal anything?

Had a Russian friend try to convince me Australia never fought in world war 2.

Told him about my grandfathers war medals etc and he still didn't believe it. Think Russians are taught all sorts of crazy shit in the motherland.

Have been told by a couple of people that I'm crazy for using this detox method, but it really does work, I encourage you to try it. Everything seems strange before you get used to it.

I use what they call "Kelp tape", it's amazing. These like, Kung-Fu monks make this fifty-foot tape- like a cloth measuring tape, but it's kelp. You swallow it over like three days. Then you start to, you know, pass it. You just slowly, slowly, pull it out of you over three more days, and it pulls all the toxins out of your body and you just feel so clean and healthy.

Either way, it's pretty amazing to think about.

How about the idea that the relative positions of a bunch of random stars and planets can have a profound influence on your personality and behaviour.
