Re: Create an AFL Guernsey

Just a question. Where does Freo's colours come from or are they just something that they thought would look good? Like Port's teal is a representation of the Port River and I'm sure theres clubs that have colours that mean something.
The Fremantle Football Club uses the anchor symbol as the basis for all of their guernseys or jumpers (unlike other sporting codes it is rarely called a jersey, shirt or kit). The home jumper is purple, with a white anchor on the front separating the chest area into two panels, which are coloured red and green to represent the traditional maritime port and starboard colours. The current alternative or clash guernsey is all white with a purple anchor. [11] got that off wikipedia, also believe the green, white and red represents the italian heritage of fremantle

Re: Create an AFL Guernsey

That's what I believe is the case but I was only about 5 when the club was established so can't say I remember any press releases about it.

Re: Create an AFL Guernsey

Have to disagree with you there guys.

IMO its the only version of the anchor that actually looks like a proper anchor.

And i think, Lee, the thing wrong with freo's current set up is the inconsistent image (see my previous image). It's tacky and pretty unprofessional, and just doesn't make sense. Its like the Eagles jumpers circa 2000-06 - the eagle in the logo was completely different to the eagle on the jumper.

Who would have thought I actually gave a rats about Freo on something? :p

Re: Create an AFL Guernsey

Non-sense.

The difference between the anchors is nowhere near the difference between the two eagles you used a few years ago.

Re: Create an AFL Guernsey

Well I've just spent a while looking through this thread (although I gave up at page 42) and I think it's interesting how many people were involved. I hope that a lot of them make their way back onto this board.
I also looked at the actual competitions and I'm pleased with how much the standard has lifted since then.

Oh and it's also annoying that a lot of the photobucket accounts have expired so I'm looking through a thread filled with nothing...

Re: Create an AFL Guernsey

Well I kept on looking (I'm at 72 now) and I'm amazed at some of the improvement from posters such as gloryandfame, InCase, StatsFanatic and Cory. I've also noticed that mine are looking a lot better. I think it goes to show what a bit of neatness can do to your designs, along with getting new ideas over time. Sadly, I couldn't find much of Smeagle's early work though.

Re: Create an AFL Guernsey

With the Bulldogs getting a new jumper sponsor in kooga, it thought it might be a good time to consider a jumper design refresh. Anyway here is my idea:

I also looked through this thread before I started posting here and I thought I was all fantastic, but I went from the most recent backwards so I wouldn't come across so many inactive Photobucket accounts. ;)

I dont mind it, but it takes away over 30 years of tradition with the current desisgn being bought in in 1975 then the bulldog head being added in 1997. (the dates are according to footyjumpers.com) It says you changed in 1975 from the red and blue bands to the current design (minus the head) because of colour TV, then the bulldog head was added in 1997 but that was also for a reason (name change from Footscray to Western Bulldogs) but as the Lions have just proved change for the sake of change is rarely ever good. Im guessing you already knew that all, but as I said before I dont mind it , might make a good promo jumper for something. ;)

While I agree that it's better as a promo jumper I don't like your argument against "change for the sake of change" seeing as the colour TV jumper was exactly that and now that's become traditional. That's not saying that the Bulldogs should change their jumper for the sake of it. I just think you need to keep these things in mind.

I dont know much about the whole change of jumpers for the change to colour TV because I am only 18, but I guess now I think about it what would have been the problem with the pre-1975 jumper on colour TV telecasts.

What would have been the motovation for changing jumpers when TV went colour? There wouldnt have been that much profit from jumpers sales, like these days were some clubs change away jumpers every year and have at least 2 jumpers each year and surely they wouldnt have been aiming for new suporters like Adelaide and Brisbane have just done with their logos?

Haha, I remember about half a year back when that thread was about 70 pages, I spent one night looking through all the posts.
I noticed that dalethomas13's Dees jumper was adjudged the best by Kerrby.

He's still active on the Pies board as I know, so how about we see if he can come back up to this board and throw in a few more designs?

Btw, I'd like to have a look at IC, Cory and your older stuff, but don't really wanna have to trawl through all the crap that comes with it :D

Can you give me an estimation of the page numbers that their on? Pretty please? ;)

Um, I guess around 80 or something, but that really is just a guess.

I eventually got through the whole thread, it took me until 3AM that night/morning.
