I actually like the idea of Kolo, who is a good mark, being on one wing as a dump kick, and having Smith/Clark on the opposite wing for pace.
I’m sure we played him on the wing a few seasons ago. Hilarity ensued.

Imagine him on the wing now. He’d stream forward, and then stop to kick backwards.

We taking about the same player? The guy who came to the club and was instantly the second best middle distance runner after the Olympic team middle distance runner we already had?
How do u reckon he’d go in a sprint? Not real good. Footy is about speed, he’s not fast he can just run all day. Can’t kick for shit either.

The same line up against the Dees but we kick the other way.
I'm sticking with the best 22 squad.
Hawkins to full back to out muscle those leading forwards
Miers for his tight defence on the small forwards
Rohan to leave his man to chase the intercept marking
Sharp shooters Kolo Bews and Blitz the main targets... better than Esava
Centre square 4 : Holmes to Ruck : Stanley to Tag : Menegola to Rover : Zuthrie to Ruck Rover
Selwood to wing : Danger to Medi-Sub : Would lift the team when he comes on late in Q4

That is the funniest post I've seen in a long time, do you mind if I post it elsewhere (not BF) giving you credit of course?

Send it to Chris Scott... he could use a good laugh after the PF debacle.

Ok. Boy did we have a few issues against the Dees. But desperate times call for creative solutions. So here's the challenge:

What's a positional change, using players we already have, that you think can work but that no one else will agree with?

Rohan off half back?
Dangerfield to tag?
Selwood forward pocket?

Extra points for it being the most out there, generally disagreeable change that no one agrees with. Measured in number of disagree reacts. No I don't have a prize. I am not that organised.

Mine:

Jake Kolodjashnij. Much maligned and somewhat capable but limited as a defender. What if he defended somewhere else?

His best work for mine is against fleet footed small forwards where he positions himself between them and the fall of the ball, then, timing his nudge on them for when they're on their second or third step he manages to disrupt them enough that they're not taking the ball cleanly and at full speed. They're then able to get tackled by a cats player that wouldn't have caught them otherwise.

Transplant this to our biggest problem the other night. Petracca just ran through stoppages, when there was even someone there to try tackle him, he shrugged it because he had already taken a few steps before got there and had momentum.

So Kolo positions himself at stoppages where he thinks the ball will go, just like he was defending a small forward, and just keeps trying to affect his run at it.

So there it is. In my opinion the most disagreeable positional change we could make that could almost work:

Kolo the tagging midfielder

At least it gets him out of the backline. Hit me with your disagree reacts people!
I actually think Kolo has done this, and could do it again.

Alistair Clarkson to Chris Scott's position.

Get the best coach out there and stick it to the Squwarks at the same time - win-win!

Bumping this.. How about Atkins to the midfield? Playing players in their actual positions which they happen to have never been given a chance to play in other than the final 2 minutes of a 100 point drubbing in the final game of the season is about as creative as I'm getting..

In an ideal setting, Atkins should not be best 22. That he is reflects something about our predicament.

Hawkins as 2nd Ruck. Dominates contests, offers marking option out of backline, can find targets kicking in F50.

Can I disagree with myself?

I remember him playing off the wing but not hard tagging a player. If he did it before there might be a good reason to avoid trying again? I just look at power mids tearing us apart and note that Kolo is in brick outhouse territory and an instinctive negating defender

Yeah I really think that wasn't given much of a run until he was thrown into an unwinnable fight.

I remember we did a preseason match a couple of years ago with him and Narkle as the two main mids. I think they got beaten by a pretty raw side but with a bit more experience could be a rotation to try again

Worth a shot. Even as a decoy ruck as I don't think he can leap to contest centre bounces. We have to have someone through there so Stanley can rest and pulling someone out of the forward line for it gives us a bit of balance

I propose we look on the bright side and creatively do what we've done in the past:

- We continue to wreak havoc and confusion on the competition by cleverly pretending we have not settled on a key ruck.

- Use the wing as a master of deception position. As soon as a player looks half-decent there, Operation WTF swings into action so that in a final the wing is allocated on a purely arbitrary basis.

- Continue to persist with a player based on the fact that five years ago he was good in that position. After all, you don't drop an All Australian.

I mean, how can any team prepare for us if we've done no preparation either?

Oh, and Dahlhaus as playmaker out of defence. He's about as small as Caleb Daniel and is quite an accurate kick over 20m. Menegola to full-back, he plays tall, it will force him to be accountable and we need some mongrel back there anyway.
