Kill off the domestic comp? Why? England fits a shit load more cricket in a similar space of time, timing isnt the issue. It's having the BBL last 6 weeks+ which is the problem, and that all comes down to tv revenue.

first off, this stupid league should never have been developed.
the state teams were becoming self sufficient on the back of T20, then they kick them for a franchise system
the standard is very poor in comparison to the previous state-teams

a much better way would have been to introduce a few expansion sides (such as the old cannons, and auckland knights)

reducing the ryobi cup was a bad move, and having such a large break in shield will affect the country in its rebuild, let alone effectively moving it to a much colder timeslot, how can players last 5 days in 35+ weather when all thier match practice is in weather under 20 degrees.

now, ontop of that, where will they play? 5 of the 6 grounds used during the shield season are AFL grounds, and most of the back-up grounds host aussie rules and rugby league games

Something needs to be done. For me it is a no brainer. Play the shield cricket before and when we are playing test matches, maybe even start shield cricket a little earlier than usual. Start the T20 and 1 day cricket at the end of the Test series, that way players have a chance of demonstrating form for the national team. It is all around the wrong way at the moment.

I think CA need to be mindful of both, and try to find the right balance. It's not like Sutherland and co are doing it to buy themselves ivory back-scratchers and leather sofas, the money ultimately gets re-invested in cricket and cricket development.
Lol, you can't actually think that. The money gets re-invested in the top flight and the top flight only.

A Milo In2Cricket kit is charged at $60 per kid to the club, all shared equipment has to be covered by the local club. If they aren't making money off that cheap, plastic crap then I'll check myself into a mental hospital. In2cricket clinics are done in schools by volunteers of the clubs, you'd be lucky to have it acknowledged by anyone with CA. And that doesn't even mention how much general club junior and senior cricket is ignored by the powers.

Then there is stories like this - Funds Cut For Cricket Clubs
Sheehan said the changes were partly due to the funding of the Big Bash and his executive would meet on Wednesday to work out a strategy: ''The battle lines have been drawn.''
It's all about money.

I just don't understand how they couldn't play 10 Big Bash games with the existing states (5 home, 5 away) - with that many games you can take them to places like Geelong, Newcastle, FNQ etc without destroying the existing structures of the sport.

because its about money

state teams were making the $$$ and not cricket Australia

they'll never admit it, but it's how it is, they need the states to be relient on them, not self sufficient

it allows them to have the power at the selection table, blackmail the players to keep quiet

they can't do that if they don't have money
