I had the same book. I had another Jones book too from memory that I think was just called ‘Deano’ that had a close up photo of his face on it with a zinced lip
Thats his autobiography. Ive got it as well.

Not a bad read. Interesting chapter where he's first picked for Victoria and none of the Vic players rated him. Ray Bright and Julien Weiner especially made it clear that they throught he was the worst cricketer to play for the state.

High praise from those two

At least Kim managed to patch things up with Dennis and Rod after their careers had finished and be on friendly terms with them.

Given his treatment by them in their playing days you wouldn't blame him if he held a grudge and didn't have much to do with them.
There's a couple of other things that Hughes had to put up with that not many include when they speak of him.

He had to deal with Greg Chappell choosing to miss a couple of overseas tours whilst captain of Australia (Hughes was V-C), so Hughes captained the side on those occasions. However Chappell was made captain again for the Australian summers. Wouldn't have done much for his self esteem I wouldn't have thought.

Also, it seemed at the time that Australia was playing the Windies almost every year. Hughes played a couple of great knocks but I think they eventually trod him down (Hughes wasn't the only one) with their relentless pace attack. The 1984 tour of the Windies must have been a nightmare with the injuries and poor form of the Australians. Hughes had to deal with and bear the brunt of all that (no media managers & very little in the way of support staff in those days).

Then he missed selection for the 1985 tour of England and that was it. Found out his non selection from a cricket journo.

I hate it when people only recall his press conference when he resigned the captaincy and call him a soft **** (amongst other things) for crying, not knowing the pressure he had been and was under.

I was a huge fan of Hughes and given what he went thought (both then and now), I admire him even more.
