richie benaud, then ian healy
Richie Benaud is still head and shoulders above the others. Ian Healy and Bill Lawry are the only two other good ones.

I turn the telly sound down and put the radio commentary on instead. They're much better. And I love Kerry O'Keefe's laugh

Bill Lawry by a mile - especially when he goes "hahahah...dear oh dear can you believe that?". He makes the Nine coverage worth listening to, and is very good during the last 30 mins of an innings.
Ian Chappell is way too dull and Richie is becoming more like that as well. A wicket falls and they dont even lift their voice and they both use the same sayings all the time - eg. for Richie everything is a "supurb stroke".

Richie - is still king & no other commentator dares to challenge his views.
Bill - is entertaining & is still good for a laugh.
Heals - I'm growing to him, as he is knowledgeable.
Tony - needs to lift his game & may struggle if neither the Proteas or Poms are touring.
Chappelli - has lost the plot completely, as he always seem to harp on about the same point for half an hour.
Taylor - dull, dull, dull. He would be good for putting kids to sleep.
I reckon the ABC is better, as you get a better rotation of comentators though the states. They should use Booney for the Tasy ODI.
Best overseas comentators:
Holding - he is cool & knows it.
Boycott - brilliant at bagging crap players, which is always the Poms when they play us (Botham was suprisingly boring - what a role-revesal to their on-field behaviour)
Bill - is entertaining & is still good for a laugh.

I generally like Ian Chappell's commentary but over the last few years he's become tiresome as he lacks variety in what he says and stays relentlessly on certain themes - like how conservative or attacking a particular captain is. (When I hear him on the radio after a day's play he says word-for-word what he said during the commentary, a sign that he's limited in what he says).

There's not a lot of consistency in our opinions here: eg Lawry, O'Keefe, etc. Maybe they've got it pretty right, as we all have our favourites and dislikes.
Having said that, 9 is drab drab drab.

Channel 9 need to have a good look at themselves. Its so bleedingly obvious that the last 5-10 overs of each 1 day innings is the most exciting. What Channel 9 need to do is have Bill Lawry always doing these last 5-10 overs. What they don't need to do is have Ian Chappel & Mark Taylor doing these last 5-10 overs. Chappelli & Tubbs could put an end to insomnia in this country.
