How come Queensland got Khawaja but we didn't get Mennie? Khawaja has a 97 and a 64 in this series, I'd think he, Warner, Smith and S.Marsh(if his finger's better) are assured of a place in the third test.
They're only resting the seamers - Starc, Hazelwood and Mennie. Everyone else is playing I think.

Goes against what a lot of people are saying and I think it's been accepted that our players should be getting games into them. Starc may need to be put in cotton wool although I reckon if he couldn't get through a shield game we might want to look elsewhere for a test, but there's no reason why Mennie and Hazlewood shouldn't have hitouts. And what does this do for later selection? Renshaw and Handscomb have both got tons but didn't face players from the test side this week.

Getting uglier than Andrew Jarman's head at the Gabba: now 5 for 73.
Whatever happens the thing the players need to remember is that it's one game only, we have two wins already and there are plenty of games to go. Also that with their performances here not one of Head, Ferguson and Lehmann has put his hand up to be removed from our shield team for the Adelaide test on November 24-28. South Australia has a Sheffield Shield match against Victoria at the MCG on 26-29 November. Score is now 5/90.

6 down with the only thin hopes SA have resting on Carey, Richardson and Zampa holding out for a while. Even if they do a deficit of 200+ looms with two days remaining.

EDIT : 7 down now. The number of runs scored after 47 overs is nearly exactly the same as Queensland had scored at the same time but they only had 1 wicket down.

SA 9/222 at stumps. When you think that we were 6/122 when our last batsman, Tom Cooper was out that is not a bad result. But I can now see no reason for Queensland not enforcing the follow-on as the excuse for that was always that you were tired after a day in the field. With a full night's sleep and maybe half an hour in the field at the most to get the last wicket that simply doesn't apply.

You'd think after 80 odd years of first class cricket being played at the Gabba that no one would be gullible enough to fall for the first day green top trick of sending the opposition in. Dumbness beyond comprehension.

Perhaps a bit of arrogance on our part? I'd say the attitude would have been, "Our bowlers have been unplayable this year. We'll knock them over for 150, and then bat when the pitch is at its best." Not a bad theory: didn't quite go to plan.....

England pretty badly off too. They're 352 behind India with 5 wickets left. The only thing that may mean they'll end up better is that we are 253 with 9 down so will end about 250 down. They still have Stokes, Bairstow, Rashid, Ansari, Broad and Anderson so could make a dig into that deficit. Even if they all failed England should get to 300 behind India but one or two partnerships could get them to a 150-200 deficit. Doesn't sound so bad if you say it quickly.

Nick Benton has scored as much as Kelvin Smith, Jake Weatherald and Callum Ferguson put together.

Alex Carey is 9 short of a new best first-class score, he scored 79 against WA on 251016.

217 behind and Queensland spent only 8 overs in the field this morning. Can't see any reason for not enforcing the follow on. Queensland would have to bat for at least two sessions to get to a position of relative safety and would then only have 4 sessions to get us out. And a second collapse like the first innings one couldn't be relied on.

Starting their second innings 67 behind NZ, Pakistan looks set to take the lead by lunch on day 9. They're currently 0 for 8 in the 12th over. I don't mind this approach though: it's called blunting the new ball. It's something our blokes might like to try occasionally, instead of trying to belt the cover off the first ball of the innings!!!

Queensland 3/77 in their second innings with Burns(for a second failure), Khawaja and Renshaw out. We're 294 behind and Heazlett, Wildermuth, Labuschagne, Floros, Hartley and Cutting still left so I expect us to be 400+ behind when they declare or are bowled out. But it should leave us with less time to bat out. If we only have to survive 4 sessions then I would put money on the draw.

Hmmm - you have more faith than I do. That's still around 130 overs to survive.

Queensland leave us with 446 to win. They batted 6 overs after tea, must have thought the lead at tea(410) gave SA too much of a chance. There are 29 overs to navigate tonight.
