SA Chasing 446 and already 2/45 with 16 overs and a day to go. Looks all over.
Not sure what Vic was thinking, though. Sure they scored 6/510 in the first innings to NSW's 225 but NSW have Warner, Hughes, Smith, Patterson, Maddinson, Henriques. Declaring with a lead of 390 and 12 overs plus a day could have been a bit generous. NSW have already cut that to 354 with 5 overs still left today.

2 for 71 at stumps. Forget the 375 to win: it'd be the greatest win in the history of SA cricket - it's simply a matter of holding on for a draw.
If Carey doesn't get to the wicket till tea I'd be pretty sure of a draw. I wouldn't like any of the bowlers to be in before tea. Despite the fact the last 4 wickets added 136 in the first innings.

SA lost Head but were going into lunch with only 3 wickets down and an outside chance of a draw. Then Lehmann went for 10 and Weatherald for 73 two balls before lunch to leave us 152/5. Even if Carey and Cooper put on 100 South Australia are not out of trouble.

Given his last four digs have yielded sfa it's difficult to see Ferguson holding his place for the Adelaide test, unless the selectors give him one last chance because it's his home deck.

If he does survive the cull you would think another double failure could place him in the never to be selected again category though.

The last four wickets in the first innings lasted 33 overs and there are 5 wickets down and 46 overs to go. It would be nice if this just meant that these two have to stay together another 13 overs and then we are safe but cricket isn't like that. Although at least it shows there is still an outside chance of a draw.

If Virat Kohli isn't best player in the world right now, he's in the grand final. After making 167 in the first innings, he's holding England at bay with 72 not out in the second.

Kohli is now out for 81 and India are 7/162, 362 ahead. this is only session 1 on the 4th day so a result looks certain.
NSW lost to Vic by 198 runs, Tas with 10 wickets left need 179 in 63 overs to beat WA and SA have to survive 27 overs to draw with QLD. But they only have Kane Richardson, Nick Benton and Chadd Sayers to back up Tom Cooper.

Matt Renshaw, Peter Handscomb and Nic Maddinson have been thrust into the firing line as debut batsmen for an embattled Australia amid a drastically changed squad for the third Test against South Africa.

The interim selection chairman Trevor Hohns also included Chadd Sayers as an Adelaide Oval specialist for the day/night match alongside Jackson Bird, with Matthew Wade to retake the gloves in a Test for the first time since the 2013 tour of India.

Six changes from one Test squad to another is a figure not seen in Australian cricket history since 1984, when the same number was made between back-to-back Test series against the fearsome West Indies team that ultimately broke Kim Hughes' captaincy.

Joe Burns, Adam Voges (concussion), Callum Ferguson, Peter Nevilland Joe Mennie are the casualties of the innings defeat in Hobart that handed the series to South Africa and also triggered the resignation of the selection chairman Rod Marsh.

There may have been another change too if not for a calf injury to the left-arm spinner Steve O'Keefe, who had up until Saturday been favoured to oust the incumbent the spin bowler Nathan Lyon, who has struggled notably for wickets or impact so far this summer.

Hohns spoke strongly of Renshaw as an occupier of the crease, and of Handscomb and Maddinson as aggressive players in the classic Australian mould. Maddinson's inclusion was somewhat surprising ahead of his fellow New South Welshman Kurtis Patterson.....

Sayers was bowled off the last ball of the second-last over.
The last 4 wickets had to face a total of 67.1 overs in the two innings.
Ferguson and Lehmann scored 8 and 17.

Typical, the bloody Gabba seems to have become a bogey ground for the Deadbacks, hope this loss will just be a kick up the bum. The poor bowling in the 1st innings killed us.

Shame that there were no rain delays in this match, I bet the 1st test against Pakistan will be affected by rain...

Looking back on what happened on the last day, part of the defeat seems to have come about because of nervousness as 4 wickets fell near a break. Weatherald and Lehmann were dismissed within 3 overs of lunch, Carey was dismissed within 4 overs of tea and Sayers within 1 over of stumps.

Did i hear right on the radio as I was driving around that Sayers and Benton had to survive 7 overs.? Looking at the commentary on ESPN scoreboard it shows they lasted 5 overs. Gutsy effort by the deadbacks to almost survive the full day.

Six changes to the Ausssie team.

Maddinson and Renshaw probably had to get a chance some time. Wade in place of Nevill was on the cards although I would have been tempted to give Handscombe the gloves, he cannot be a worse gloveman than Wade. Nevill is a good keeper but not up to it with the bat. Hopefully Wade's keeping has improved, Nathan Lyon will hope it has. Good to see Chad Sayers get the call up, hopefully he plays on his home wicket but the selectors have a thing for Bird so I am not counting on it.

Changes had to be made but I am not confident about going into a day/night Test with possibly four debutantes in the side.
