Just down the road from me is a dodgy 'school' which proudly dubs itself as the 'Academy of Learning'. Not sure what they teach there but it isn't tautology.

NZ in prime form. A strong NZ cricket team is always good for world cricket. I admire that cricket team ever since I went over there and found out just how mad Kiwis are about rugby.
The Kiwis are a confident bunch right now. They walked all over Sri Lanka yesterday, and then enforced the follow on (although the visitors are fighting hard, second time around - they might take a bit of shifting). They'll also be damn tough to beat in the World Cup, which starts in 7 weeks.

Kiwis have never had any problems with how they view themselves. They're a fiercely parochial nation, as a mate and I found out when we visited in 1986. And they have a particular rivalry with Australia: while we were there, I heard our country referred to as, "The West Island." In response, the locals weren't very happy with me, when I told them that I was always under the impression that New Zealand was a distant suburb of Sydney :).

Absolute puss bowling by Johnson. it's pretty obvious they're not going to get them out with the short stuff.

some top Batting though by Rahane and Kohli.

Tough day for the Aussies, but getting Kohli off the last ball was just the tonic they needed. If he was still there, he could have played another cameo and given India the lead. As it is, we should knock over the last two cheaply, and then start building what will hopefully be a match winning lead. Still 180 overs left in the match, so it's a bit early to be declaring it a draw.

The positive to come out of today is that, with a bit of luck, it gives Smith a chance to continue on his merry way with the bat. He's already topped 500 runs for the series: another ton tomorrow takes him beyond 600, and gives him a chance to break Graham Gooch's record for a 4 Test series (around 750). Go Smithy!!!!!

very similar position to after day 3 of the adelaide test. could go either way, aussies could fire up tomorrow and get a big lead, india get early wickets and they are back in it. should be a great 2 days of test cricket.

I don't particularly like him, but wow - if he keeps batting like that, he can say what he likes. Pretty fair player!!!
nah he dishes it out as good as anyone, which is fair enough, he is an antagonist. he shouldnt be running off whinging in the media. needs to learn what happens on the field stays on the field.

Think it pretty much hinges on Warner, both fresh and capable of hitting runs. cant keep leaning on Smith. Warner is always in decent touch and hasn't got going in last 3 cracks. I just can't trust Marsh, Watson, Rogers or a debutant and it would be too much to expect smith to make a ton in both innings.

Regardless it would be nice to see something out of the pitch because it's just so bland. Bit of turn for Lyon would be ideal.

Big Show has hit a Big Wall.

Glenn Maxwell appears to be paying a heavy toll for a year that has included a staggering 51 Twenty20 games for four teams across six countries.

Bizzare dismissal from the 'big show' ... or is he now the 'no show' ?

India were 4/409 to be all out for 465
Australia were 5/216 to be all out for 535

That's the difference between the 2 teams.
Bingo. From that position, India should have made 600.

By the way, there was a funny moment in the crowd on day 2. Sharma had just conceded his 100th run for the innings, and the guys near me started congratulated him for his chanceless century: ie being hit for 100 runs, without even looking like talking a wicket :)

Pissant (as I like to call him) Sharma has to be the most over rated bowler ever to play the game.

I was at my sisters' place on Saturday and I said to one of the guests India could be 3/400 and trail. Well, that happened although I was not so sure this test that it would happen as Indias' lower order looked a bit better with Dhoni, Rahul and Ashwin. Didn't expect them to fail completely.
