What's with the Australia A thing, and why is Travis Head in it as well as the Test squad? Has CA determined that playing in Sri Lanka provides more of a challenge than English county cricket?

Boland is in both, too.

In case they miss Tests they still get some cricket over there?

Travis Head is in the ODI squad because of his good ODI form in Pakistan and as cover for Aaron Finch who must be close to the axe. I guess they will go with Warner and Finch as the openers but if Finch keeps failing Travis Head will open.

Not sure why Head is in both the Test and Aust A squads. Maybe once more the selectors have a question over Head's Test form in Pakistan and have plans to pick him in either side? Travis has been dropped for Mitchell Marsh in the past so maybe it happen again.

Just received a text from a mate, telling me that N. Gilchrist of Kent hasn't exactly covered himself in glory with the bat of late. He's just registered 6 consecutive first class ducks, including 3 golden ducks. It'll be interesting to see if he can get off the mark in his next innings.

Always feels weird when former star players (Greg Chappell, Dean Jones, John Wright etc) have some sort of coaching role with another country.

I hope that Mr Gilchrist can bowl.

Sad news...

Australian cricket is in mourning after the shock passing of Andrew Symonds, aged 46.

The former all-rounder passed away in a car accident on Saturday night outside Townsville, with his family confirming the tragic news on Sunday.

Sounds more like they're playing England ;)
Speaking of which, England's first Test with Ben Stokes as captain starts next week. They're playing the Kiwis, so I expect their misery to continue for a bit longer yet :).

Travis Head doesn't have any county innings listed on his recent innings on cricfinfo. It normally does include first class cricket so maybe he isn't playing over there this summer. So maybe its to give him some red ball cricket in the lead up. He's not in an IPL side like a lot of the other players.

The English Test summer starts now!
