Time for a whinge - SA finally has a bit of momentum with the red ball, but our next Shield game doesn't happen until February 5. I know the Big Bash has to happen: doesn't mean I'm happy about it.

England: Tony Greig, Allan Lamb, Robin Smith, Adam & Ben Hollioake, Geraint Jones, Graeme Hick, Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott

Australia: Kepler Wessels

We should’ve offered meat pies for life to Andy Flower

Former England captain Sir Andrew Strauss was also born in South Africa. No one really knows why Strauss received a knighthood but he did.

Selection for Adelaide will be interesting. The selectors will probabbly have Cummins available and Lyon back in the side so who will make way?

i am not a great Pat Cummins fan. I think Steve Smith is a better Captain and i could live with an attack of Starc, Boland and Neser with Lyon as the spinner. That won't happen of course as Cummins will return and Michael Neser, despite his 5 wickets in the England second innings, will make way.

I got to give Stokes some credit as he gives it 100%.
Compare him to that pillow hugging Archer.
Stokes must get so pissed off with Archer’s have arsed efforts.
Agreed re Stokes, as a player he gives his all plus he comes across as being a genuinely top bloke.

I suspect he has been instructed by the MCC to continually pussy kiss that prima donna Archer due to concerns he will pull the pin on test cricket and instead take the much easier option of bowling a max of 4 overs in the various T20 comps, but no Aussie captain I can think of would put up with a bowler who only tries when he feels like it and puts the cue in the rack as soon as the shine is off the ball or when he can't get any assistance from the pitch.

Archer's bowling in the 2nd innings of the Perth test was absolute rubbish and Stokes appeared to give up on him when he sent him to fine leg well before the game was over, where IMO he had a sulk and showed little interest in what was happening for the rest of the game.

He also started the in your face stuff against Smith when he attempted a ramp shot but didn't make contact, which obviously fired Smith up, so he smacked Archer's next two balls for 4 and 6 and then gave him the very apt `CHAM-PION' comment!

The key to the bloke's character (or lack there of) was when the Aussies had iced the game and Archer couldn't make eye contact with Smith during the after game hand shake, and I saw comments describing that as being akin to a dog skulking off with its tail between its legs, brutal but arguably deserved.

Re any future `brutal comments,' I suspect both the Adelaide and MCG test crowds will be ready to give Archer plenty particularly the boxing day crowd after a couple of sherberts, and if that happens I suspect the pommy press will go full on and describe him as a victim of those vicious Aussie crowds!

Nah Cummins is easily in our best 11 when fit. He's employed some strange tactics at times as captain, but he's a world class bowler, who can also contribute vital runs in the lower order. Without him in the First Test in England in 2023, we wouldn't have won the game, and the Ashes may very well have changed hands.

Yeah Cummins does the hard yards and breaks partnerships. It might take a test or two for him to hit his stride, as was the case last year. Cummins is a better leader, Smith a better tactician.

Australia: officially slightly less racist than England

Doggett joining Boland and Gillespie in wearing the Baggy Green now means that just as many indigenous Australians have represented their country in Test Cricket as indigenous Englishmen have theirs.

Maybe.
