The whole series has been shocking from both teams
And not helped by the amount of time wasted by 3rd umpire and a dodgy DRS and some of the 3rd umpires needing 15 replays when 2 or 3 would have been sufficient.

The umpiring has been :poo: and some of the reviews laughable.

I thought the Crawley review was a joke and the DRS still made it umpire's call for a ball that to the naked eye was hitting middle and leg halfway up.

Unless you have a spinner or maybe a second one bowling lots of overs, and only 3 or 4 reviews ie only 1 each session or maybe 2 in one of the 3 sessions, I can't see 90 overs being bowled in a standard 6 hours of play.

I get the extra 30 minutes now added to try and get there, but usually sides have bowled less than 80 overs when it starts.

Something that wastes time now is that if a player is hit in the helmet, a 3 to 5 minute review for concussion takes place.

Another thing that wastes time and should be cracked down by umpires is how many times drinks are brought onto the field for players.

Stuff it players should be forced to wait until drinks break to get a drink, unless they need to take a tablet then run out water to swallow the tablet. With the rope being used at every ground these days, bowlers get their drink by someone walking between rope and the fence so that doesn't waste time.

The guy just does not know how to convert a good start anymore.
Yep - no triple figure scores for 18 months. That's ordinary stuff from your number 3.

This is Labuschagne's record since he peaked in the 2022-23 series against West Indies and his career average was 60.82 after the AO test in early December 2022.

3 years on his average is down to 44.77 he has made 1 century and 12 fifties in 33 tests and 61 innings and average of 29.92, which just isn't good enough for a number 3 test batsmen.

Sure he made a lot of hundreds in red ball and white cricket in Oz before this series started, but with a 5 test match series against India in 12-13 months time, then another ashes series, its time to find, a new #3. Green did ok on very spicey pitches in the 3 test series in West Indies in July and August, but he's not the long term answer IMO.

I'd rather find 2 good proper openers over the next year or two, like Kellaway and Renshaw/Weatherald and let Head bat at #3. I am sceptical of Head doing the job as opener overseas as well as he does on the bouncy faster decks of the Oz pitches.

They won't move Head from opening now he's on the brink of his third ton in the series as well as being the leading run scorer of the series.
I'm not thinking for the tests v the Bangers in a few months time then NZ next summer, but v India in India in Jan/Feb next year and the Ashes in July/August. Labuschagne can't survive that long averaging 25-30 and I don't think Green is the answer to bat #3.

Green is the most overrated player in Australia in the last 10 years.
Labuschsnge is one of these players that has a habit of making a reasonable score just as people are talking about dropping him.

Agree re Green, the reality has never come anywhere near the hype on him, and unfortunately it's looking like it never will!

Highest strike rate for someone scoring over 500 runs in an Ashes series too, iirc. Little more than Davey's effort in 2014(?). That may have changed since I read it in the cricinfo comms. Had to make do while pretending to work in the office today.

Have Cam Green shot
