Victoria need 97 more runs... If SA manage to get them out I won't know whether to be happy because we chased them down or disappointed by Victoria because they let us off the hook so easily

Are you serious? If SA pulls this off, I'll be doing back flips, which could be extremely dangerous for my dodgy hamstrings......

The Redbacks have done well to get to the Shield final despite injury to Ferguson and Richardson but they need to get an experienced player who can Captain the side thus taking pressure off Travis Head. Head, Lehmann, Weatherall and Ross have ability but not much experience, they need to be able to concentrate on batting. In any case Head has been named in Australia's ODI team and if he makes a few he may play more games for Australia than the Redbacks. Adam Zampa is also in the squad.

There must be a question over Ferguson's knees but I guess he will go around again. Cosgrove is disappointing because he lets us down when we need him the most. This game was tailor made for Cosgrove to stand up and produce but he was not able to do it. If the SACA are dinkum they will look for an experienced Shield player to lead the side and if one is forthcoming they will relegate Cosgrove as a depth player.

Well done to the Redbacks on making a Shield Final. When Fergusson went down then Richardson was injured I gave the Redbacks little chance of making it.

Totally agree. The d!ckhead$ at the $ACA NEVER should've got rid of Klinger, his experience would've been invaluable in this game. Definitely miss Fergie, hopefully he'll be 100% commited to SA, & that means NO playing in the BBBL!!!

It's been good to see Weatherald step up with some runs in not many games, Lehmann has made plenty but like we've seen recently a bit hit and miss and Carey make a few here and there (but apparently a stack of runs at grade level too). Head and Ross have continued their form of last season. Do we need to bolster the batting? For the last couple seasons it seems Cam White has been on the outer but as we've seen in his last two (at least) Shield matches he's pretty much rescued the Vics (to earn a place in the final) and put them in a winning position (smashing 70 odd runs at the end of their innings to build a lead), so he might get another contract. Would love to get him here though, if only for a season or two. Marcus Harris is a fringe player from WA who may be attracted to call Adelaide home, although he's probably biding his time waiting for Klinger, Voges and S. Marsh to retire with Bancroft and Agar the CA selectors' new favourite project players...

F***ing DISGRACEFUL performance Head & Deadbacks overall!!! Only Weatherald, Ross & Worrall deserve respect from this dismal match, everyone else, just p*** off back to the gym/nets & improve next year.

End rant :mad::mad:

Not sure if I'm out of line here in praising the opposition - especially a Victorian opponent, but let's be honest here: the Vics won all the big moments in this game. They executed their skills better than we did, and deservedly walked away with the big prize. It's now up to us to prove that this season isn't a flash in the pan - we need to back it up next season.

But I think Jamie Siddons deserves a bit of credit here. This was his first season as coach, and he's already got a Shield Final on his resume. I have no doubt that he and the players will leave no stone unturned, in an attempt to win that elusive Shield next summer.

Anyway, that brings the curtain down on another cricket season, so it leaves me with just 3 words to add: GO THE POWER!!!!!!!!

probably the most pathetic morning of cricket ive seen, bowled head who chucked up pies to spread fields, no pressure, no intensity, just rolled over and let them have their way with us. vintage redbacks at their worst. they were always up against it but they had to try. cool overcast morning, bowl worrel instead of head, get the field around the bat and make them earn it. dont gift it to them.

as well as he batted weatheralds brain fade throwing his wicket away 10 minutes before lunch after being dropped just a couple of balls earlier really hurt too.

Disappointed to lose the final but we were up against it from the beginning going in without some of our more experienced players, the best developing spinner in the game & having Sayers injured early.

The remaining senior players however have let this team down Cosgrove in particular doesn't deserve a spot in the side going forward, let's hope we don't have to wait another 20 years to get a crack at the Shield.

Whether it played a part in the result or not this final deserves an asterisk for that disgraceful display of unsportsmanlike behaviour from the Vics bowling coach with that blatant ball tampering.

Take a look at the scorecard and ask yourself if a player like Klinger or White would have made a difference. You can have so much young talent before you need a steadying influence.

I always thought that Cam White batting down the order could be a problem for us. White is a fast run specialist and we should have expected him to hit out but that is the difference between SA and the Vics. The Vics have a guy like Cam White to call up for a final.

Do we need to bolster the batting ? You bet we do particularly if Travis Head is playing for Australia.

He bowled the last over when South Africa chased down 434 against us in a one day match. Absolute disgrace to do what he did in a shield final, any game to be honest.

No he didn't. Obviously Lewis will remember that match particularly well but it was Brett Lee who Ntini smartly deflected his yorker to third man for a single and before Boucher finished it off in style with a lofted on-drive.

Harris would be a good pickup. Has the patience to bat for very long periods of time, which he has shown on a few occasions. Unfortunately has been fairly inconsistent and would require a bit of time to get settled into the side - which would take a bit of guts from a selector to provide him with. Not going to get those opportunities at WA in the next year or so unless Bancroft spends more time with the Australian squad. As an aside what is with the snarky comment about Bancroft being a project player? Absolutely ludicrous that people cry out for Shield performance, yet sulk when it is rewarded.

I hope Harris would be a better pick up than Stan `Steamer ' Wilson, a so called fast bowler SA got from the west some years back.
Stan left Perth at a reported 6' 3" and 90 plus kg and arrived here at about 5' 10" and barely 70 kg, nullabor shrink I think they call it.

None for plenty, in his first, and from memory one and only shield game for SA, including numerous wides and no balls sent down at barely medium pace, he dropped 2 sitters at fine leg, and when he batted he faced a total of 3 balls in two innings.

We did ok out of Ashley Mallett and Terry Jenner back in the mid late 60's into the 70's though. ;)

Yeah my memory from that game was hazy, thought it was Lewis bowling at the end.

Fairly disappointing result today for the rednecks, but did anyone else go down to the game this morning? Gus was down there (obviously for MMM stuff) cause I saw him by the cricket club, and then later on the field doing an interview or something.

Not a social visit for Gus? Most of the port boys are pretty good friends with most #deadbacks boys just check Instagram

Oh it probably was a combination of the two... He is the only footballer from either team I saw down over the days which I found surprising.

England make the T20 WC final, how does a team that's so flaky away from their home turf do so well in competitions like this? Obviously have a pretty well rounded squad & having a decent spinner like Rashid on these decks helps a great deal.

I partly blame Smith for our capitulation in this tournament, he said himself he should've bowled Zampa more I thought it was blatantly obvious that spinners were going to be the difference over in India & Zamps is no mug he's developing nicely.

I know not many Aussies care about our countries care factor in the format but I just hate our International sides losing in such a fashion, it's great we're the top in ODI & Test but it would be nice if we weren't T20 minnows when our talent should have us in the top 3.

At least the Southern Stars are through to their final, it's good to see one national Cricket side take all 3 formats seriously.

...and the FOXSports advertising machine rolls on.

FOX are still playing ads that spruke Australia's shot at 'the only title they have never won'. The Aussie men went out of the T20 WC several days ago or did they go down the T20 WC ? Eitherway they are out.

Some good news though, Mitchell Starc looks like he will resume against West Indies on the upcoming Caribbean tour.

What's snarky about it? Those two will be in and out of the WA side so they can play for Australia A/XI sides and the odd game for Australia, as I assume guys like Head and Zampa will be from SA, Stoinis and Handscomb from Vic and even the likes of Jamie Peirson and dare I say it...Alex Keath (once upon a time). Ergo, more opportunity for Harris.
