This proves you can't listen to anything Sunil Gavaskar has to say about Sportsmanship.

FWIW, Chetan Chauhan, the current Indian manager who has been outspoken in the last few days is his batting partner I believe.

Word is that Sunil was never given out lbw while playing Test cricket in India, back when there used to be no neutral umpires.

And fairly shit sportsmanship from every point after that.

Tell me exactly what he did unsportsman like? I am dumbfounded by this. Clarke's catch was a catch, Ponting's appeal for a catch was caught, though not off the bat. He didn't walk when given not out, but he's not the lone ranger there. He was pissed when given out lbw, but who ever is?

Yet forgets to mentions when Ponting pushed an official off a dias, lift your game Roebuck.

That was Damien Martyn.

We just need to get on with the fricken series. India are an excellent team, and they can still draw the series and prove they are a equal adversary.

Martyn? It was Joe the Camerman.

You weren't watching Dravid's dismissal I take it?

*sits back and waits for the Nuremburg defense 'Look, the umpires make the decisions, the Aussies!!!!! simply appealed, en masse, like ****wits, for something that was criminally not there.'*

It was a shocking decision no doubt, after more shocking decisions. But how should they deal with it? Steel themselves and work harder, or whinge like fricken pussies?

I think threatening to go home is pants - but I also think Australia's attitude on day five was unadulterated shit.

And not a great deal more mature or professional than that of the Indians is now.

By the way, if anyone's going to say the Australians haven't bleated about shit in the past they are pulling the piss.

I am really pissed that probably the best or second best test match I've ever seen can't be applauded for what it was.

Tendulkar and Laxman's batting... Kumble's bowling... Symonds and Hogg's partnership on day one... Hussey's hundred... Clarke's last over... it was a brilliant test match.

They should be proud of how they played and quietly pissed at the umps and the referee.

I'm with you on this Royal.

The Aussies are whinging like little girls. We are known for being great sledgers, but it looks like we cry like little girls when someone gives it back.

Symonds should just take it on the chin and get on with it, I'm sure he was getting stuck into Harbajhan as well. Im sure hes been called worse than a "monkey", and you think he would have plenty of ammo to fire back with anyway. Such school yard shit, you called me a name so I'm dobbing on you from Australia and from Inida we lost, so I'm taking my bat and ball and going home.

Both sides are acting like a bunch of schoolgirls!

Best test match ever?

Second best?

Nah.

Extremely good test sadly ruined by a few incidents and a truly rubbish last day?

That's closer to the mark. Sad really.

Agree with everything RB has posted.

Threatening to go home is bollocks, but the Australian side should be ashamed of some incidents in that game and should be embarrassed it's petulance and inability to cope with a genuine contest. Having a go at the captain on a North footy forum is probably best avoided. But he behaved (and has masses of form) like a goose. I was very dissapointed by Gilchrist. He had to know Dravid missed that ball. If everyone assumes Singh called Roy a monkey, then I can assume Gilchrist cheated in that instance with equal certainty.

Just a shit situtation all round. They are a great side, but seem like rubbish blokes. Many will say that winning is really all that matters, but I like to think cricket can still be thought of as a sport played in a certain spirit with certain respect expected of it's participants.

You can both win and lose in good spirit. These sides have shown an incapacity to get close to doing either.

I don't agree that Symonds should accept racism as such, in any form, but Im willing to bet he's copped it in the past, and others players from other nations would have - including comments from Australians players.

Making the complaint is fine.

Making the complaint doesn't give the Australians a license to act like ****s following that point.

Thanks for clarifying my opinion.

I'll PM you next time to run them by you before posting.

Its like footy, you punch on when on the ground and have a beer together when the game is over!

This dobbing stuff is just getting pathetic. God, if it's true that he called him a monkey, he should just laugh it off. I work with an Indian guy and he said that some of the Indian players look more like monkeys than Symonds.

Just seems very petty from both sides. Funny how we have become so sensitive to sledging, when in the past we have been reknown as the best going around in that department.

Should have been handled differently is all I am saying. Symonds should have approached Harbajhan after the game and told him that shit isn't on and settled it like to grown men.

I'm sure a few of the Aussie batsmen would like to see the suspension carried out, because Harbajhan is making them look like monkeys!

Firstly, given that all of whingeing is coming from (male) cricketers and (male) commentators, I think your 'girl' analogy is both offensive and innacurate. Appears that in this case the whingers are all boys.

Second, I'd have thought most adults (male and female) could work out that while sledging is now a normal part of most team sport (rightly or wrongly - and generally not in the form most of us imagine) there are lines which should not be crossed. And race is one of these.

And I'm absolutely baffled by the number of people who seem to think Symonds should have to cop this, because apparently he's heard worse. It's a bullshit argument. Racism is racism, it shouldn't be tolerated. Fullstop.

FWIW, I also think the three match penalty is excessive. But the decision to report the incident was absolutely the right thing to do.

We will see over the next 24 hours who runs the game of cricket the ICC or BCCI. I think the BCCI who have so much financial clout may expose the ICC as a toothless tiger. I hope I am wrong, but the ICC left Darrell Hair out to dry twice can't see this being any different.

Is there any difference (from a racism point of view) between this incident (as proven) and the one that cost Darren Lehmann 5 one day games? (as alluded to in an earlier post)

Agree wholeheartedly.

The people criticising Ponting for dobbing in Harbajan infuriate me.

I have no problem with Boof copping 5 games for muttering "black ****" as he walked back into the rooms. The Sri Lankans heard it or were made aware of it, and he copped his right whack for it.

It'd save us a lot of time, would improve the quality of yours posts as well.

Disagreement is not clarification.

I said it was the best or second best test I have ever seen. You told me it wasn't.

Not yours maybe, but it is one of the best tests I've seen.

It seems all of a sudden the world has become so sensitive. All I am saying is if you want to get under a players skin by sledging him, don't go crying like a girl when he gives it back to you. People must be in denial if they think we weren't giving it to him when he was smacking our attack to all parts.

As I also said this could have been handled in house by the players concerned. Just mistifies me how everyone sees our side as the innocent party in this fiasco. You dish it out, you cop it when it comes back. Just smacks of the playground bully, crying when he gets a taste of his own medicine.

Neither have I, what I was getting at is if the charge is proven (after appeal) why should the Indians be upset?

Fair dinkum.

The players can sledge each other all the want and I'm sure they do. They can use all types of colourful language and criticism.

But we are talking about racism. That is totally unacceptable. The line was crossed and now he is paying the price. I would expect an Aussie to cop it equally if the shoe was on the other foot.

This should have been sorted out as per my earlier post. After the days play with an independent arbitrator.
