A bit too much backyard cricket / Big Bash for my liking and so far removed from traditional cricket and what ODI cricket was growing up. I'd argue that the '99 World Cup wouldn't have been any better with free hits. The idea of a bowler delivering a legal delivery and the batsman being able to slog and not go out has never really sat well with me. The batting team has already received the extra run from the no ball and the opportunity to score from the actual no ball delivery it without being able to be dismissed. Yes, the batsman might not know it's a no ball at the time so won't slog, but the extra delivery and run is adequate compensation. They've been around a while now. Why are they an annoyance?
