Apparently it was sugar cubes handled with a spoon as gastro was getting around during that test. Don't know 100% but that's what I've heard.

This whole mess has everyone over reacting to the shithouse imho.

Maybe surprisingly I'm a bit more moderate on this
Should be a series suspension for Smith & Warner and I don't think Smith should remain Captain.
Don't agree that it should be lifetime bans as pretty much every side in the world has tampered with the ball at some stage (and been caught).
Yes I know it was organised by the leadership group and it was so so stupid. (why use bright yellow tape if you're going to do it !!!) but I think a strong statement can be made without destroying Steve Smiths career. Bancroft shouldn't cop more than he has too

The public reaction to this is just as much a punishment to Smith as any suspension will be. He'll lose the captaincy, come back into the team and continue on. He'll now have to deal with the shame and constant reminders he'll receive from punters worldwode for the rest of his career. Can he cope with that, I'm not so sure.

Good point Spider.
I didn't think Greg Chappell was quite the same after the underarm incident either . It would have weighed heavy on his mind

I think what Smith has done ( & the same for Greg Chappell ) shows the sort of pressure that Aussie Test captains are under, and goes some way to explaining the brain explosions that happen

Couple of days to think about this. I'm an absolute cricket tragic - love test matches more than any other form of the game. I still cannot get my head around how they could all agree to do it. It is so dumb that I just shake my head. Did they really think you could do anything like that and nobody notice? It is just moronic. Funny how Warner seems front and centre again. Time for him to have a permanent holiday. Fancy being one of the all time greats like Smith and having the tag cheat hanging over you for the rest of your career. Will cost him millions long term as media career opportunities will be limited. His book better be good - he may need the income by then. Moronic in the extreme!

Rajasthan Royals have released a press statement declaring they have a no tolerance attitude towards their players bringing the game into disrepute and they intend to review Smiths' contract situation with them with that in mind.

That's likely to cost him millions straight up.

Warner likely faces similar sanction.

The Indian gravy train may well leave the station without either aboard.

Probably the most corrupt sporting contest in the world has got moralistic !

The Australian team should've cited racism and threatened to fly home before the conclusion of the test and Smith could've been transformed into a martyr.

In 2008, he (Manoj Badale) along with a consortium of investors, Lachlan Murdoch, Illyria Pty Ltd; and Suresh Chellaram, an independent investor acquired the Jaipur IPL team ‘Rajasthan Royals’. Badale, along with Ranjit Barthakur, soon became the source of controversy when inappropriate and fictitious bids were made, violating BCCI norms.[4] Ranjit Barthakur and Fraser Castellino were the only two shareholders of the Jaipur IPL, completely unknown to the BCCI at the time.[5][6] An out of court settlement between the two later ensued.[7]

Manoj sounds like a fine upstanding citizen and everyone knows the Murdochs are salt of the earth folk. The sport would be corrupt beyond recognition without these types of blokes.

I couldn't believe it when they went to the Ashes test and they had Warner of all people up on the big screen saying don't call people names etc otherwise you will get a fine and be thrown out. Do as I say and not as I do.. Warner and Smith out.. Unfortunately without Smith's runs Australia would be lost so they will have to keep him around.

Who did Warner villify?

One of his team-mates at Rajasthan is Ben Stokes.

I feel the talk of life time bans are completely ridiculous.

Ball tampering happens all the time and it doesn't result in the end of careers. It results in loss of game day pay possibly miss a match or two and move on. And if you think the other offenders don't discuss it out the back your head is buried in the sand.

What the players have done is no different to other players why have tampered with the ball in the past and it's mind boggling the cricket world is asking for this set of players to be punished so much more harshly than other.

Confected outrage.

Lol now Broad of all people is accusing the Australians of a long term ball tampering regime.

No evidence, just claiming it as fact.

Says that we swung the ball every session during the ashes (my ass) and that the conditions had no right to allow it, so they must have been tampering with it.

Someone should bring up the ashes with him a few years back where England were swinging it over a foot, even with a close to new ball and ask him what technique england were using.

Confected outrage.
There are three parts to it, I think.

Firstly, a lot of Australians think we don't cheat. It's silly, because we've had our fair share of dopers and the like, but "we play hard but fair" is ingrained into our national consciousness. So for it to be out in the open like this is a genuine shock, particularly when it's being organised by the captain.

Secondly, we hold ourselves up as some kind of moral arbiters in cricket, which again is silly. We abuse Stuart Broad for not walking (while not doing it ourselves), we define where the line on sledging is (while being the most relentless sledgers in the game), and so on. Lot of people finally have an opportunity to put the boot in, despite the hypocrisy of their own positions. And hello to Michael Vaughan if you're out there.

And finally, this is a mainstream issue now and that means you get a lot of people commenting who don't understand that ball tampering, while illegal, is not uncommon in world cricket.

I do agree to some extent DP. They are paying for past sins to some extent though.

Its not so much other nations calling for heads though its the Aussie Public .I have been taken back a bit at how strident the Australian response has been. Its obviously pushed the Australian peoples buttons.
