Frankly I want the guys out because I am sick of their shit, Warner's carry on, the strike (which on the face of it was for the good of lower level shield players) but then tweeting photos of being in the maldives when they boycotted a training camp. A pack of entitled, spoilt brats. Im glad it all coming back to them with interest.

I think the biggest thing for me is that these guys have had it on their own terms for so long. By guys I mean smith and warner.

They control the roost and the lay of the land, and have had a large influence for a very long time.

If these blokes are to be in the side still, without holding leadership positions, how do those who are in charge have the support and the backing of these two blokes? Surely the way they have paraded in the past (ie Maxwell scenario, my way or the highway) their ability to undermine and influence would be an absolute cancer.

This is just scratching the surface, of indescretions and ideology of these two “leaders”.

I just cannot see how they get to hold a spot within the 11!!

Well....

One averages just under 50 as an opener and the other has the 2nd best average since the game was first played...

I think both deserve punishment, but to lose their livelihoods- flipping LOLLOLOOL

The coaching panel to be installed will be the most important decision for CA in a short while, as they will be responsible for team cohesion and making sure all and sundry are on board with whatever decisions get made. If certain players don't fall in line, they will be gone. Pretty simple stuff imo.

I don’t disagree that on talent they are best XI cricketers, at the end of the day though with that sort of mentality, arrogance and flippant regard for a younger player how do they fit in to team culture of a sport with limited personnel to begin with.

How would we have fared had duck stayed at north and wasn’t in a role as captain?

I still cannot get my head around how they could all agree to do it
True. You can visualise one bloke thinking about it, and possibly even tossing the idea out there, but surely one bloke stands up and says no way?

And did the leadership group think of it and call Bancroft over to tell him to do it?

I would be shocked if every single person in that dressing room wasn't in on the ball tampering...

Just as well that I'm interviewing Brett Geeves on Wednesday.

Brett's never been one to mince words so it should be interesting listening K4e. I suspect he has a couple of decades worth of grievances to air on the back of this, as others seem to have been doing.

Geeves is exactly right about ball tampering in all forms of cricket, the difference is most of the tampering is done subtly through sunsreen, lolly saliva etc. What the Aussies did was so brazen and the arrogance of thinking they could hide a foreign object in a pocket, pull it out and scuff the ball with it without getting caught deserves the extra scrutiny they are receiving.

Should have done what every other team does, bounce throw the ball into the pitch every ball, on the way back to the keeper.

Personally don't think it was arrogance, more that Bancroft seems to have the intelligence of a brick of lead.

Just have to look at the footage and how he did it to see hes a few fries short of a happy meal.

Moises henriques has tweeted that he suspects there was no "meeting" and Smith tried that story to cover for Bancroft. I did hear that the other "leadership group" players have said they didn't know. I guess we will find out after the investigation.

On the Twitter plus side, Michael Vaughan was pontificating and Richard Hinds tweeted him that it all left such a bad taste in the mouth, a mint was needed. Big thumbs up.

Honestly, what Henriques has said is exactly what I think about it.

Smith was so Vague about the details when he faced the press it really felt like he was trying to protect someone.

If thats the case I don't think Smith realised just how badly it was going to turn out.

Without even reading this post or Henriques' tweets, I would have said the same. I honestly do believe that Smith and the leadership group went into bat for the young fella, rather than a huge conspiracy.

The huge piling on by the South Africans, English and Indians on this issue is not only cowardly (sure as shit isn't brave), but also highly hypocritical. The English have a well earned reputation in pushing the boundaries in regards ball tampering, i.e. 2005 with Vaughn, Atherton getting done in 1994 for dirt in his pocket that he magically didn't know was there and Broad/Anderson regularly throwing the ball into the ground to rough it up in the early overs. Swan's comments reek of a sad little man who was forced into retirement and didn't like being called out for it by Lyon. South Africa was done for ball tampering in 2014 and 2016, not to mention that they have had seven international players (3 more first class cricketers too) done for match fixing, Australia has had none. Where do I even begin with India, from getting away with doctoring absolute jokes of pitches to suit their average bowlers, getting done for match-fixing, the BCCI controlling the ICC (Harbajahn getting away with being a racist is a prime example of the Indians throwing their toys out of the cot in this regard), and Tendalkur and the Indians playing the race card when they got called out for ball tampering in 2001;with them throwing the toys out of the cot yet again.

Was what happened wrong, sure, but this whole thing has been blown way out of proportion and plenty of opposing cricketing nations have been waiting a long time for something like this to happen to Australian Cricket.

It's well known Smith struggles with sleep. You simply can't think straight and function if you've had 2-3 bad nights sleep. Add to that the stress of captaincy, the series falling away, the agro with the Sth African team and the long and tiring summer and it's no wonder Smith had a complete brain fade. It's something that no clear thinking, rational person would go through with. Still no excuse, it is completely shameful and embarrassing what has happened. These guys are highly paid professional sportsmen surrounded by all sorts of luxuries, coaches etc. They should be better than that. Losing with your dignity and honour intact is far more important than winning by the 'whatever it takes' mantra. I can't comprehend that the best player in the world resorted to this and that his coach and mates allowed it to happen. It all starts at the top I reckon and a complete overhaul is needed. All sports and administrators are prostituting themselves to the tv networks in order to get a 'record' tv rights deal. I'm sure CA would have stressed to the team the need to get a positive result in SA......

I posted this the day before the shit hit the fan.

True. I've just seen some little signs in this series and the last one day series that he's struggling.

He is normally a free flowing batsman with shots all round the wicket, lately it has been 4 or nothing. His anxiety levels when he's at the crease are normally high but watching this series they are now off the chart. I think he has a problem and South Africa are in his head.

A little different.
One screwed a team mates....
The other screwed the ball....:

Tbh. They are all in it. The coach. The entire 11. In fact I would say that ball tampering is common with all test teams and all payers are aware of it.

For what it’s worth.
I saw my personal trainer today, he runs his own high performance gym in Cheltenham and he works regurlarly with the vic state cricket team as well as a few Melb based AFL teams. He also plays A grade with Handscomb down at St Kilda.

He says that some sort of ball altering plan is always in place. Whether it’s throwing it in the rough before the keeper, accidentally standing on it with spikes or using chewing gum/mints/sugar.

He stated that the word on the street is that Smith was trying to be noble by not throwing Bancroft under the bus by taken blame at the press conference, never guessing it would blow up as it had. He also stated that Smith is a brilliant player but not the brightest of sparks. He should of never had been made captain. He also stated that this would of been Boof’s idea through and through. As Warner and Smith are incapable of thinking for themselves.

Take that how you want. My PT is not a bullshit artist and works with some of the best teams and athletes in Australia.

^ sounds plausible. Especially the bit about Smith and Warner not being suited to leadership roles because they don't appear to be tactically proficient.

When this blows over, as it should, confirm Paine as captain. Perhaps Mitch Marsh VC as he's captained WA. Warner and Smith just there to make millions of runs.

Of course everyone toes the line.

Using a bit of saliva, throwing the ball into the wicket, running on the pitch. They are all tried and true methods, but the biggest key factor there is chance or possibility that you get the desired result.

They’ve just taken it further and gone and actively tried to alter the ball in plain sight!

Do you know if it was actually tape? Just seems like such a random thing to utilise and by getting dirt off the pitch to alter the aggott??
