:thumbsu: Smith will be welcomed back and in 5 years when he becomes Australia's greatest run scorer barely anyone will give this a second thought.

Warner, not so much.
Exactly what I said in my post but you beat me to it.

I do hope Smith can keep his head right and use this year to iron out kinks in his batting. Perhaps it may even extend his career......
Warner is an aggressive mongrel and perhaps if Steve was a stronger personality we wouldn’t be in this mess.

Note how the ACB stated that Warner was behind this. And Steve Smith’s crime was sticking up for a young cricketer by not throwing him under the bus, misleading the ICC and the media (press interview).

Furthermore as this plays out. How the **** did Boof let this dynamic between Smith and Warner exist under his leadership. Meaning the domination and influence Warner had on the team.

Was reading about the money these two will lose and there’s some bullshit throwaway line from warner that his financial advisor wouldn’t be doing his job if he had to work after cricket.

**** he’s just a Bellend

Honestly reading Smiths charges it sounds like he heard a suggestion that ball tampering could be an option and he either didn't take it seriously or didn't think they'd be dumb enough to do it, and then didn't immediately throw someone under the bus in his post match comments so is being punished.

Who uses bright yellow ****ing sandpaper? How ****ing thick do you have to be to think you will get away with it? They deserve to be suspended for stupidity

CA are a joke.

I will lol if little Davey throws them all under the bus. Flog of a bloke and won't take this lying down imo. Hoping so anyway as I don't trust CA's 'investigation'

3 players hung out to dry and not one staff member knew flipping lol

It's funny seeing comments about 'Australia setting a new standard' etc.
The cricket world are absolutely laughing their asses off at us atm and will for a generation.
No other nation would hang their C and VC asses in the breeze like this lol

Comical stuff to appease non cricket followers who are outraged over an incident that normally carries a 5 run penalty and fine.

Good on ya James! Must of been a real stern talking to by Alan Joyce lol

True. A massive over reaction by the media and the former Australian cricket legends who saw an opportunity to get their mugs on telly one more time (cash for comment?).

Warner likely to contest his sanction.

In his position, he could very well have grounds as the penalty is way over the prescribed or expected suspension.

It's pretty hard to believe that this saga came about the way CA announced. Maybe it's all true, but who knows. But assuming there is nothing more than what was said on the charge sheet, and no other player has ever been suspended for anything like the time these blokes have copped, you would have to think they would appeal.

The thing that may stand against them is that CA may have a leg to stand on by the clauses in the player contracts, but even so, these would need to be fair and reasonable.

It hardy makes sense that the ball was altered or attempted to be altered without the bowlers being aware, unless it is a normal thing for a non-bowler to be responsible for ball management so the bowlers can maintain an air of plausible deniability.

As for the coach not knowing... Move on. Nothing to see here.

Totally.

I guess there would be sandpaper in their kits to maintain bats. I think they'd have been better to stick to the traditional method of loading the shiny side with sunscreen and a few wayward returns on the bounce to the keeper.

Taken aback by the self-loathing (or loathing from non-Australians on here) going on.

Cricket Australia have done a North Melbourne and drastically overcorrected imo. Unpopular opinon but that's how I see it.

I look at precedent and associated penalty for both ball tampering and other indiscretions mentioned and we've basically applied the death penalty to blokes who were caught travelling on trams without Mykis.

All this bully talk et al, spare me. The Indian and English media have gone on so long with this one way criticism over the Australian team that the Australian media have followed suit and a few of you have started drinking the Kool Aid too.

Warner, Smith and Bancroft were trialed by media.

Or your zipper or a lollie.

I don’t have an issue with the penalties, apart from Smith’s. It appear all he did was attempt to take a bullet for Warner. Warner should have just done it himself instead of involving Bancroft.

Fully agree with your other points. All this talk of big, bad, bullying Aussies gives me the ****ing shits. I’m not sure why it is the sole responsibility of Australians to uphold some imaginary moral code of conduct.

It’s just so over the top.

Sutherland has turned into the Gaddafi of cricket. He’s unchallenged, controls the the lot and has been there for way to long.

He’s handed down a penalty akin to match fixing.

Nathan Lyon wanted to end careers, well his boss has done it for him.

Its that pervading perception that the Australian cricket team have been very quick to point the finger, but not so keen to walk the walk
The truth is probably somewhere in between but that's the perception

anyway a year ban is ridiculous for a first time offence

They weren't penalised by CA for ball-tampering, the ICC have already done that. They were penalised for bringing the game into disrepute.

I've got an idea for you.

How about you organise to print some posters up and come Boxing Day, I will help you carry them to the MCG on trolleys, you know like the one tradies use and we can hand them out ţo all Aussie fans.
