Yes and yes.

Kohli is a fantastic limited over cricketer. Quick, smart, full range of shots.

But red ball he's too easily beaten outside his comfort zone by multiple bowlers, racking up cheapies that short form allows to be considered near number 1 at Test (hence the word) level imo.

Yeah, you have to separate the red and white ball. Unfortunately with the volume of Indians fans, the narrative becomes Kholi is King at everthing.

Yet, in Test cricket, he averages 53.62. But, tellingly at home it's 68.42, and on bouncier Australian and South African pitches 55.39 and 55.80 respectively. But everywhere else, his best is 43 in Sri Lanka and well under 40 everywhere else including England, NZ and an ordinary WI.

I think the total package of Kohli and his symbolic leadership inflates his reputation. As late as a dozen years ago, Indian teams would come over here with pudgy little off spinners and wiry fast-medium types with porno moustaches. The batsmen were tougher, but as a team they'd more readily walk off the field or threaten to quit a tour if they were confronted in any way. Kohli, and the IPL era, produced a tougher India - beards, tatts and bling - that embraced a challenge and had a bit of swagger about them. Kohli was the figurehead of that and his aura was enhanced by it, especially in Australia.

AB DeVilliers one of the best ball strikers I've ever seen.

He is a genuine freak sporting talent imo
