I might be old fashioned, but i support the enforced follow on whole heartedly, i heard Ian Chappell saying exactly that too.
Im just guessing, but these days im sure they think about TV/numbers through the gate when deciding...
I would have liked to see us make another 50 before declaring personally.Have to admire the Pakis - showing more heart here than we did. Question is why we declared? Why give them a sniff? Smith's captaincy might just about be teetering if we lose this. No follow on was more about the crowd and playing an extra day instead of winning a game.

Or 55 overs left our blokes cooked.
I don't remember the last time we enforced a follow on.
That needs to change in more ways than Scott needs to create a plan B.
My eyes. They're bleeding clear blood.Kolkata 2001.
I'd like to say it was the biggest choke of the year but North v * took the honours.

At least 2 of those outs will stop the "nice gary's" completelyGood effort with 5 Batsmen, 3 Bowlers & the shittest Australian Wicket Keeper in history.
Out: Maddinson, Lyon, Wade
In: Head, Sayers, Neville
Em: Cummins Pattinson Patterson

The last enforced follow on was Michael Clarke V England at Sydney i think.
That Kolkata test match that we lost, Steve Waugh had 7 chances to enforce the follow on after that game and did so all 7 times and won every single game. It is 'trendy' not to enforce these days and will bite someone on the ass soon.
Yea we definitely enforced a follow on in aus under Clarke. I remember the bitching from crick aus and nine about it making the game shorter
Smith did the right thing not enforcing the follow on. There was so much time left in the game. Give the bowlers some recovery time and takes the game completely away from the Pakistanis. The only thing you could criticize Smith for was declaring an hour early, but being a day/night Test he wanted to bowl in the night conditions with the new ball.
Smith did the right thing. The bowlers almost threw the game away. Starc and Hazlewood should be foils to a better bowler. Individually neither are good enough to lead the attack. Starc lacking consistency and Hazlewood lacking pace.
Completely agree. The follow on should have been enacted. nine has too much influence. Three and four day tests impact on the ratings and that equates to dollars when rights are negotiated. We almost lost this test when it was unlosable (in the end it was unlosable I suppose) but the only reason the follow on was not called had nothing to do with cricket.Completely disagree. Not only did it nearly cost us the game, it has given serious confidence to the Pakistan squad for the upcoming Boxing Day test. They just completed the 4th largest 4th innings total in history when our bowlers could of had an extra days rest all going well. We will never know. Starc, H/Wood and Bird had only bowled 18, 14 and 12 overs respectively- hardly an amount where bowlers need 'recovery'
Great game of test cricket in the end though, as it was looking woeful after Paks first innings.
Matthew Wade is a deadset stinker.
How did he end up part of a reset?
Cannot keep and his batting is grossly overrated.
Yet another failure by the GOAT off-spinner to bowl out a team in the 4th innings. How many tests has he played? From memory, it's that many minus one where he hasn't had an impact in a 4th innings. Which is what off-spinners are picked for, isn't it?
Yes, he bowls some good balls, even some good overs. But they are seriously outnumbered by the non-threatening vanilla stuff that he usually produces.
