Maybe true with the latter, but earlier reports suggested that it could be out of Maxwell & M.Marsh for the #6 spot in the Aussie test team. Maybe the Vics dropped him to keep him for themselves as long as possible.

The only place Maxwell should be picked in the Test squad is in the sub continent, where he can bowl.

Well lets just close this ******* thread then

My post didn't have any negative connotations.

You need to work on not jumping to conclusions.

In my world, it goes: Golf > Cricket > Kangas.

The article he wrote applies to all level of cricket when it comes to rep sides. There are always tossers who think they are better or above new, fringe blokes.

See this attitude is so wrong... Speaking from the tossers point of view as that was me, we were always carrying 'your' sorry asses to premiership glory, we didn't have time for niceties as we (the talented tosser) were winning the game, the premiership, the competition batting awards, Victorian schoolboys/U17/U19 squad selection.

For me it wasn't even about winning, it was about not losing, which reverts back to my previous comment that is a very selfish game, played by the mentally unstable, of which I was a complete nutcase. I was sent off the ground playing in England one day by both umpires and captains including my own. Absolutely true story. Has anyone else ever been sent off a cricket field?

I rest my case.

I've been a staunch Clarke hater his entire career, thought he was a complete tosser but no one ever took any notice.

Hahaha, never seen anyone sent off but experienced plenty of meltdowns. When I was captain/coaching our star batsmen used to count his own runs when batting, no matter what score he was. One day he came off at arvo tea and abused the **** out of everyone because we messed up the scorebook and clapped his 50 when he was 51. I made another grown man cry, actual tears after telling him he wouldn't be opening the bowling cos he turned up 30 mins late to our warm up. Cracked the shits all sulked all day then pissed off at arvo tea He had daddy issues though. His father coached him all through his junior career and blew smoke up his arse, telling him he was the best thing since sliced bread. I made sure he never played for us again.

Ponting, despite some of his on-field faults as captain (a bit too conservative with his field placements), was a better overall skipper than Clarke. Ponting had to manage the retirements of so many stars over a short period of time and was given some absolute trash players to operate with by the end of his tenure and he did very well considering. Ponting also managed a lot of the off-field dramas a better than Clarke ever did, mainly because Ponting was a product of the mid 1990s and a successful cricketing culture.

That's pretty normal haha

Mine wasn't a meltdown for being given out, it was for sledging and umpire abuse whilst keeping - I was 18 and 20,000kms from home and took exception to a series of non decisions.

I stopped playing cricket well over a decade ago as I prefer to play golf where I'm less reliant on other people and If I want to piss off at arvo tea (after 9) I can, if I want to rock up 1min before I tee off, I can. And if I want to go home and spend time with my girlfriend, I can rather than feeling guilty about not having beers with the boys after a game.

But that's what makes cricket great is a whole bunch of different blokes who ordinarily wouldn't be mates battling it out in the hot Aussie sun striving for a shared goal. Some people same as in life, are simply better human beings.

I know he's that wonderful combination of West Australian and a good North man, but in what bizarre parallel universe does Mitch Marsh deserve test selection?

We currently have an obsession with playing an all rounder. The thing is, an all rounder should be able to hold his place in one of the disciplines. Marsh, at present, is neither a good enough batsman or bowler at first class level, let alone test level.

So back on topic :P

last week didn't bat due to a wash out. Today came in at number four and we were 3 for not much. Set about spending time in the middle, was going well. Up against in fairness a decent attack. Was just starting to feel comfortable when I glanced a ball past square leg and took of for two, **** it, maybe 20 years ago there was two, came up short..... run out for eight.

We only made 98 and have them 7/94 at stumps, the guys weren't overly happy and questioned my thought processes, which I clearly didn't have any. Man I blew a great opportunity, but at least my new teammates did see I can bat a bit. Onwards and upwards as they say.

Zimbabwe is playing its 100th ever test against Sri Lanka, starting today.

It's been an interesting journey to say the least.

Have to disagree. I think Mitch is well worth persisting with. He is a quality bowler who is a better batsman than most of the other 'bowling' all rounders we've had in the past couple of decades.

Test batting average of 23 and bowls eight overs per innings. Just pick a batsman at six, fill those eight overs from part-timers and tell Mitch he can have his spot back when he gets 600+ runs and 25+ wickets in a shield season.

Cricket season? You mean NBA season

You deserve a flagrant foul for writing such garbage. NBA season doesn't start until the finals begin in 6 months time.

Forgive the wicketkeeper in me (I can't help myself) but what exactly did your team mates glean from what sounds like a pretty painful 8?

That I hadn't batted for eight years and hung around against a decent attack, while wickets were falling I was sound enough and went out to bat with another 50 odd overs available. As I said we made 98 and I ran myself out trying to get back on strike.

Did I hear correctly CA have told the vics maxwell is to be selected for their shield side.

****ing CA needs a coup. So many ****wits. 2nd to the AFL
