The selectors got it right when they picked Renshaw and Handscomb. Both of them had great Sheffiels Shield form and it has carried through to the Test arena. Not so much with Maddison, he also carried his Shield form into the Tests.

Add Ferguson and Mennie.

Ha. India burnt both their reviews in the last 10 overs.

India are just the petulant, whiny schoolkids of world cricket. They were always anti-DRS as they felt the system worked against them - victim complex. Now they hate it because they keep getting it wrong. That Mitch Marsh LBW review was so pathetic, it wouldn't have hit another set of stumps. It made all of Shane Watson's reviews look reasonable.

Those first two tests against South Africa - the disaster that they were - could well be the genesis of a new era of Australian dominance. Like a bushfire spurring new growth.

Like sacking a bunch of favorite sons at the end of 2016...wait what??? I didn't say that.

Now, now, lets not air footy grievances in this thread too.

[However I like the analogy and the hopefulness of it]

Handscomb's first catch was right up there with the best ever.

That was absolutely incredible, so incredible that the only other person in test history who could have taken it, is Mark Waugh.

Hes had a pretty good match actually when you consider the staye of play.

That's the thing though. India didn't need to doctor the pitch. If they just prepared their normal ones they would still be too strong for us.

Bit of resolve about this group l think Spidey. Point to prove after disappointing tour of Sri Lanka and then Sth. Afrca here.
Think Smith has steeled them and fresh faces like Renshaw, Handscomb, Starc & Hazelwood at the top of their game will see us at least break even.

These are all of the batsmen in test history, all countries who finished their careers, or currently have, a career test average of over 60:

Years Tests Ins n.o. Runs HS Ave
DG Bradman (AUS) 1928-1948 52 80 10 6996 334 99.94
AC Voges (AUS) 2015-2016 20 31 7 1485 269* 61.87
RG Pollock (SA) 1963-1970 23 41 4 2256 274 60.97
SPD Smith (AUS) 2010-2017 51* 94 14 4877 215 60.96
GA Headley (WI) 1930-1954 22 40 4 2190 270* 60.83
H Sutcliffe (ENG) 1924-1935 54 84 9 4555 194 60.73

Voges, Pollock and Headley all had short careers or limited opportunities (although by all accounts Pollock and Headley could *really* play).

The man whom many say is the best batsman in the world, Virat Kohli, by comparison, has played 55 tests, only four more than Smith, and averages 51.16.

We're seeing a very very special batsman.
