With all due respect to the Hughes family, and obviously sympathetic for their loss, I simply don't understand what it is that they are trying to achieve at the current inquiry into his death.

What is the outcome if there is a finding that there was extra sledging and extra bouncers? Isn't that still part of the way the game is played?

It was a freak and devastating accident in an otherwise normal game of cricket. Why try to apportion blame now?

Yeh. Very sad. Will tear alot of relationships apart.

Pakistan will kick our ass.

Easily the best test team going around, value their wicket, have an exceptionally well balanced team, play with hunger and spirit and are ranked #1 despite not playing a home tour in years.

Wish we had half as much heart as they do.

Agree.

All they're doing is sitting there being rowdy and pointing fingers and disrupting the hearings.

I understand they're upset, but thats no excuse for making Phil's friends feel even worse than they already are.

Freak accident and if there was any maliciousness on field the umps would have heard the so called death sledges.

India are ranked no.1 now after beating the Kiwis. Having said that they are a good side. Which test match will they throw? .

I don't think they are trying to apportion blame. The inquest will more likely make recommendations on safety issues, ways to improve response times etc. Make sure that if it happens again everyone will be more prepared.

I agree that these are, or should be, the expected outcomes of the inquest.

The family's agenda, unfortunately, appears very different. It is clear that they want the NSW players to admit to sledging and a bouncer barrage. And for what possible outcome? This agenda that they are actively pursuing has no possible safety-related outcome.

They might be cheats, but if they got paid what our players get paid they wouldn't have to, not to mention if Al Qaeda had a gun pointed at your misses and said make sure you don't make more than 15 runs, I guarantee we'd be throwing games too.

TBH, I've only seen snippets on the news with regards to Bollinger being questioned about sledging. Thought this is just the coroner exploring every detail or has it been pushed by the Hughes?

Hughes family are commenting over the questioning and any time they don't agree with something disrupting proceedings. His dad flat out yelled "lying" during questioning today

Ok, that's disappointing. Nobody goes out on a cricket field trying to deliberately try to hurt anyone. When you get to that level the amount of analysis of opposition players techniques, weaknesses is amazing. Find a weakness and bowl to it, simple as that. NSW obviously thought they could nullify Hughes with the short stuff. Unfortunately a freak incident took place. It affected cricketers of all levels throughout the country. Obviously the family are upset and emotion can cloud your judgement so I'm not going to criticise them too much but hopefully this inquest gives them closure that they need.

Pretty good article on just that.

They're effectively asking the inquest to find that it was just a normal game of cricket.

It's a little spooky reading this - it's as though I wrote the post! Foot movement, playing late, rubbish bowling - it's a carbon copy.

I tried to train last Thursday, but was still quite sore. The prognosis was 4-6 weeks, and Thursday was only three. I definitely feel better this week, though, and will train Thursday, and play Saturday.

I'm incredibly excited, because it's been a very long time coming. Unfortunately, I was given two of the worst knees in the history of mankind and, since my early twenties, have suffered a trillion knee injuries. I've had several reconstructions and other surgeries, and not managed to play competitive sport for more than twenty years. The last time I made a return to cricket, I required a reconstruction after the second training session. In recent years, I've had no trouble with the right, but have hurt the left doing such strenuous activities as getting out of the car, and diving in the pool. Pathetic!

Anyway, encouraged by my amazing missus, a year ago I set myself the goal of playing cricket this summer and, with backing of my surgeon, underwent operation number ten. Today, having spent all year in the gym, I feel fantastic, and I'm truly hopeful that, this time, I might actually get through. I'm as sure as hell not going to die wondering.

All I have to do now is remember how to bloody play - I'm having to try so hard to do what once seemed effortless. But, bring it on!

Full admiration mate, awesome effort or is that awesome repeated effort:)

Keep us posted with your progress, we can highjack this thread and make it about us:P

Well yesterday was day 1 one of a two dayer 72 overs each. I didn't **** up much in the field in very windy conditions. although I found myself repeating," don't hit it to me" as by mid afternoon I couldn't bend down to pick up the ball.

I need to strengthen my legs if I'm going to make a fist of this comeback. We had ten over in the evening to play out til stumps, asked if I wanted to open................. **** no!!!

Got them out for 247 and we're 2/22 at stumps, also looked at me when we lost our second wicket, begrudgingly put the pads on but wasn't required, thank god as I couldn't really move my legs and I'd have been a sitting duck or another duck.

I've a week to get moving with exercise before I hit the crease at least fresh- no excuses unless I'm given out LBW after hitting it (again)

I once did a favor and Umpired at square leg for an U15 game.

Having never played the game to have been out in the pitch I was shocked and a couple of times had to ask a couple to cool down on the batsmen...they looked at me like I had three heads.

The sledging on that day from these Juniors is still something that I remember 15 years later.

To me...if that was sledging...it disguises what it really was that day...vicious bullying

I didn't really like the tone of this quote from his sister:

“If there are mishaps that have happened we need to settle this and hopefully receive an end result that will help us progress through life without our dearly beloved son and brother.”

Go well next week, mate. I'm looking forward to reading about your match-winning knock!

Thankfully, yesterday was only a one-dayer - 36 overs a side - so there's no hellish million-over day in the field for me just yet! Just as well, judging by our performance yesterday: all out for 74, and then lost by 8 wickets IN TEN OVERS!! All done by 4 o’clock! If it was a 2-day game, they might have got a thousand, and I'd have needed an ambulance.

Batted at 4, and was caught with a diving one-hander at mid wicket for 2. Bowled one over, 0-1.

Hated losing, was spewing at getting out, but loved every second of it. I'll hammer the Voltaren for a few days, and look forward to next week!

Since we're making this thread about ourselves, we had aT20 yesterday. Bowled first and kept the opposition to 100. Picked up 2/15 of my 4 overs. In reply we were 2/83 with 4 overs to go, then we lost 4 wickets in 4 balls. A bloke got a hatrick, then a run out the next ball. Ended up needing a 4 of the last ball to tie. Captain smashes it to the fence.

SUPER OVER. We batted first and scored 11. I then had to bowl our over. 1st ball, hit to mid wicket, they took off, throw to my end. Run out. 2nd ball, bloke dances down the track, big swing, no ding. Clean bowled. Game over, straight into the beers. Woke up a bit shabby.

Great stuff. Very impressive effort! But keep that up, and my jealousy may lead to me ignoring you!

Nice work Spider!! Congrats on the win. We might by the sounds of things be living victories vicariously through you.

LOL caught by a diving one-hander I'd have told that campaigner to go **** himself:P My lovely wife asked me where it hurts as she held the tube of Voltaren, I stripped of naked and stated everywhere.

Also might add no I'm not interested as I'm already well ****ed!!

So you're plus one? Right side of the ledger mate :)

Nah Pakistan drew a series with a reasonably average English team.
Don't think they have enough class in their batting to win in Australia

will depend on the fitness of some of your quicks tho

The same English team who beat us?

Drawing a series in England is a good effort.

They have Misbah & Khan, that is plenty, they also have a few new opening bats who go OK...
