The same English team who beat us?

Drawing a series in England is a good effort.

They have Misbah & Khan, that is plenty, they also have a few new opening bats who go OK...

You beat yourselves in England.. How many times did you get yourselves in a winning position and then just have a shocking session ?

Drawing a series in England would be a good effort if it was a strong English team. But the only world class player they have is Root with a number of pretty handy types like Broad, Anderson, Stokes and Bairstow . Its not a high quality side

Misbah and Khan are pretty handy, but what's their record like when the ball bounces above stump height ?

I think it will be a good series, but if you get Hazelwood and Starc back firing, then I think the Pakistani batting will struggle on Aussie pitches. They haven't really proved in the past that they can play on them

Misbah averages 48.27 @ 42 years of age. He is an absolute superstar.

Younis Khan averages 53+

That is not pretty handy mate, they would be your two greatest batsmen in history.

All that is true, except your underrating of Broad and Anderson in English conditions. They are guns over there and with the football type crowd behind them it's about as tough as test cricket gets these days.

The point is if Starc and Hazlewood are underdone we are cooked, they have Riaz and young Aamir back plus a good spinner. They also have young players in good form, and come to Australia with very little mental scarring like so many teams before them who have been beaten before they get here.

They are a terrible 50/50 team as proven in the world cup, but in red ball cricket they pumped us in Sharjah, and under lights with a pink if they take their chances off Riaz who will be an absolute handful with a pink aggot under questionable light, then they are a huge show.

They also have old mate Mickey Arthur as coach, if there is one O on this planet that would be desperately trying to beat Australia, than it would be this O. He has improved their fielding immeasurably and will have them cherry ripe and as well planned to beat us as any Pakistani team to ever come here.

I rate the Pakistanis as a good team..I'm just saying that they may struggle in Aussie conditions
You also have to be careful about averages. The Pakistanis play just about all their cricket on the slow low tracks in the middle east. They also play Bangladesh, New Zealand and Zimbabwae more than probably any other side. So the averages are inflated

If you look at their averages vs Australia
Misbah averages 37 (25 in Australia , but admittedly that's from only 2 tests)
Younis averages 56 which drops to 43 in Aussie.. but he's only played 8 tests in total vs aussie, (which is disgusting and shows how slewed the cricket calendar is)

They both would need a big series to be a chance.
Im also not sure how Pakistan would handle the blow torch that gets applied to a touring side

anyway I would be very happy to be proved wrong . Cricket needs a good series in Australia..The recent ones have been rubbish.
I do agree with you that if Starc and Hazelwood get injured that would change the equation significantly

You'd think the umpire would be reviewed following this game.

3 LBW outs in the same over over-turned by DRS.

The bottom edge you could forgive but the other 2 were bad calls.

Sounds like the umpire I had yesterday. I legged glanced one off the middle of my bat, keeper did well to dive one handed but spilt it. Umpire calls it a wide. 3 overs later the batsmen at the other end takes 3 steps down the track gets hit on the thigh pad and gets trigerred. Funny game cricket.

When I played club cricket, there was an Umpire know universally as "Trigger" as he didn't give a decision in 15 years of officiating
He was a good old bloke who I think just enjoyed the sunshine and the free afternoon tea.

But then I was a batsmen, the bowlers had differing opinions of him !

Looking forward to the tests against a red hot Sth Africa and a Pakistan with a highly varied bowling attack.
With Pakistan, not since the days of Imran Kham and Miandad can I recall their touring side not being fragile or undercooked.

Got a really good leggie . Looking forward to watching him bowl on Aussie tracks

If anyone was in doubt that Michael Clarke was a selfish, self absorbed twat throughout his playing career then have a read of the excerpts from his upcoming autobiography and the reaction from Simon Katich and Brett Geeves. It will remove any doubt.

Cricket is the most selfish sport on the planet, it's about as individual a sport as team sport gets.

Most who play it are unwell.

At a high level I agree. Ego's a plenty. Most people can fit in though. Only the true w***ers like Clarke can take it to that level.

Marcus Harris is looking to be a handy pick up for the Vics.

Agreed. He should work well with the more circumspect Dean.

It's continuing to look like 2 borderline Aussie players are not gonna get a game for the Vics (Maxwell & Finch). Can anyone see the comparison between the highly derided national team selectors & a certain football team that is close to our hearts!?

The Vics select on form... But where has that got them? Oh yeah, they're the reigning shield champs!

Maxwell and Finch are nowhere near test selection.

Finch gets worked over by half decent bowlers in the longer form because his technique is so crap. If Maxwell could get his head right he would be a goo d cricketer.

Here is the Brett Geeves article. I've known Geeva for a fair while... you either like him or you don't (his words), I think he's a great bloke (apart from being a Hawthorn nuffie), he's one of the most honest and direct people I've met. He's also passionate, especially when it comes to his cricket and footy! Played the game HARD, pushed the boundaries of fair play on field (best sledger I've ever heard), off-field he's great and always gives his time to the juniors.

I listened to him on the ABC and I don't mind him. He's a little bit different. The article he wrote applies to all level of cricket when it comes to rep sides. There are always tossers who think they are better or above new, fringe blokes.

Thanks for that BR. Very enlightening.

Maxwell and Finch are nowhere near test selection.

Maybe true with the latter, but earlier reports suggested that it could be out of Maxwell & M.Marsh for the #6 spot in the Aussie test team. Maybe the Vics dropped him to keep him for themselves as long as possible.
