I'm happy enough with those changes, but Siddle needs to go too. He's finished.

Need more firepower, can't just rely on Starc having a brilliant spell and/or Hazlewood toiling away.

Reluctantly agree with you about Siddle. I remember 6 or 7 years ago he had a brilliant opening spell against South Africa, got two early wickets and cracked 150 a couple of times, now he barely gets to 130. Doesn't move the ball enough to be dangerous at that speed.

We should really bite the bullet, serve up some savage green tops and rebuild.

Out S.Marsh, Voges, Siddle, M.Marsh, Lyon
In: Maxwell, Sayers, Maddinson, Handscombe, Bird

Maddinson
Warner
Khawaja
Smith
Handscombe
Maxwell
Neville
Starc
Hazlewood
Sayers
Bird

Siddle should be axed for good.

Tries hard, good bloke etc etc, but can't have "pace" bowlers with little movement regularly at 120odd Ks.

It's time to move on. He can take Lyon and Voges with him.

Agreed.

So back on topic :p

last week didn't bat due to a wash out. Today came in at number four and we were 3 for not much. Set about spending time in the middle, was going well. Up against in fairness a decent attack. Was just starting to feel comfortable when I glanced a ball past square leg and took of for two, **** it, maybe 20 years ago there was two, came up short..... run out for eight.

We only made 98 and have them 7/94 at stumps, the guys weren't overly happy and questioned my thought processes, which I clearly didn't have any. Man I blew a great opportunity, but at least my new teammates did see I can bat a bit. Onwards and upwards as they say.

How’d you go this week?

We got flogged. Chasing 300 and something, and after being 0/100, I stood at the non-striker’s end and watched us lose 8/23. All out for 160. Red ink for me, though!

Finished with 1/32 after having two catches dropped off my bowling, and a plumb-as-all-firetruck LBW turned down.

I actually got contact lenses for the first time in my life just for cricket, and wore them Saturday. I really felt it made a difference, so bowlers watch out! The only problem now is the body soreness, which on Sunday I genuinely felt could bring about an early death!

I love my cricket.... but the current hit and miss rubbish our national team is dishing up at the moment is doing my head in!

For me, the mix is a long way off being consitent, in my opinion we're trying too hard on a couple of fronts, especially the all-rounder, we don't have one! Certainly not one currently good enough to deserve a spot. If the selectors have any sense they would pick six "specialist" batsmen and four "front-line" bowlers. I'd shake the tree to see who handles it and who doesn't!

As for the state of Tasmanian cricket (something I'm involved with at all levels, men and women, and have been for over 25yrs) it's in the worst shape I've seen for a very long time. Junior cricket in this state is deplorable! Having a son involved in junior rep/high performance sides since he was 10, (17 now) I've seen many talented kids get overlooked due to ridiculous things eg: a boistrous father or like the one lad from my club that missed out on State U/15 selection due to the fact he couldn't throw! This same kid smashed record runs at junior level in the rep games that were used to pick the team, but wasn't picked due to his poor throwing arm (apparently not something anyone at CT was prepared to spend time with the lad to help get better). That same kid just made his A-Grade turf debut this weekend at 15! Junior regional level coaches I've watched as a father, don't coach... they co-ordinate net sessions and practice matches, that's not what kids need, they need skills coaching!

Sorry, for the rant, but I'm passionate about my State and especially junior level cricket.

"Shaking" the National side tree....

Warner (c)
Maddinson
Khawaja
Smith (vc)
Ferguson
Bailey
Handscombe+
Lyon
Starc
Hazlewood

Yeah it rained and the ball became not worth bowling so we got carted. They won on first innings. Our 98 all out haunted us:)

So a new game this week, the body is feeling better although I get an injury weekly it would seem. I dislocated my little finger and didn't even cry...... progress I call that :P

I will probably miss this game due to work and then a little holiday. Am enjoying myself, funny you mentioned contacts as I find the seeing the ball at distance hard, so tried glasses but tbh I couldn't pick up if it was heading in my direction.lol

Glad your bowling is coming along- maybe a spot in the next test for ya. I hope to resume my bowling after christmas ( finger spinner)

Not too bothered with cricket for the last few years, or decades really, WSC was fantastic and the world is a lesser place without Hookesy and Gus Gilmour, though I digress. I think I heard the other night on the radio that Graeme Hick is Australias batting coach. Is this true?? Surely Boof Lehmann is/was a better bat than Hick. Jeepers, who then is the bowling coach?

Steve Harminson.

Seriously though, I believe it's Craig McDermott.

It would be incredibly if we could get all our a-grade fast bowlers on the park. We wouldn't get big runs scored against if all of: Starc, Hazelwood, Cummins and Pattinson were all fit and capable of playing out a test match.

I really think we need to back in some youth in the batting stakes, We've wasted too many games on the likes of Voges over the past few years imo. Also need to get rid of M.Marsh until he actually develops into a cricketer. I'd much prefer Maxwell or Handscomb hitting a quickfire 40 then watching M.Marsh bobble around the pitch.

It's an interesting time in Australian cricket. Never have I seen such a serious lack of depth in both our spin bowling and genuine batting depth.

Sometimes you just have to make do with what you have. And those of us who have been around long enough to remember when Greg Ritchie played 30 tests know that these periods will pass eventually.

You would reckon that with the current weather forecast for Tassie, whatever odds are on offer for the draw looks like free money.
Was $2.40 two days ago into $1.70 when I took it in a multi yesterday morning

You serious? A bit a moisture around means the ball will either swing or move off the seam. We'll be lucky to bat for 5 full sessions over 2 innings.

Probably good changes in the end.

Happy to see Ferguson get a game. Pity it's in front of a Sheffield Shield size crowd.

Never seen Mennie bowl, would of played Behrendorff personally.

Also, that neck tat on the bloke singing the national anthem.

Would you open your front door to him?

I believe that was Launceston singer Matthew Garwood..... bloody talented! Was a finalist on The Voice

Haha I thought I would only miss the start. Nek Minnit half the innings.
