Cook plays shots. Renshaw hasn't played a single shot. A couple ticked off his hips and that's it. Continually playing and missing. It's actually rather sad to watch. Now I have to stick around for the dinner break to see then come out and score 20 runs.

And the way he keeps having twelfth man run out with a towel is pathetic.

Renshaw= the LT of cricket?

That was a solid performance. Quicks were excellent, Lyons hit some form again, held catches in the field, some astute moves from Smith, and the batting looked significantly more capable from top to bottom. Renshaw and especially Hanscombe look as though they could stay in the team for a long time.

It's a chicken and egg thing but the spirit in the group seemed really high - Wade might not have starred with the bat this time but he does make things appear much more energetic, and his keeping was sound (and better than that with the great catch today).

Stick to the T-20's, mav. You don't have the patience for the real thing.

It appears that a generation of cricket fans literally do not know what test batting looks like.
Test cricket is it for me. I watch/listen to every test we play. Today's batting was not good, he was very very lucky. Played and missed more times than he played and hit. It wasn't a grind it out innings, it was a deer in headlights. He had no idea how to get off strike and was just digging himself into a hole. Good on him for not getting out, but again he was just lucky that he was batting so poorly he couldn't get near the ball to even get an edge! I hope he comes on but for me Marsh comes in as soon as he's fit.

Yeh was looking at him and he was copping abuse from the commentators for not turning over the strike.
Its Test cricket.
Its his first test. Fairdinkum heaven forbid he puts a value on his wicket in his early days.
The way he played and missed wasn't someone that put a value on his wicket. It was someone that didn't know what to do. Sure it's his first test, but he has to learn how to get down the other end when he's struggling.

Exactly. It's test cricket. There was one day and a sesh to go. No need for quick runs. Good to see an Aussie batsman that can hang around without going the tonk

Shaun Marsh was in good nick until he was injured but unless Renshaw is totally schizen against Pakistan he's going to India.

im not against him going to india, in my opinion though, he looked troubled by Shamsi (sp) so he would be in all sorts against the spin, in the sub continent. its something he will train and practice, but i think it may be a little too early. dont want to kill his confidence so early on.....

Agreed. Marsh comes straight in for Maddinson.

This was gold... Matt Renshaw was digging in against some quality bowling and the crowd was riding every ball with him. Wait until the end!

I'm at the MCG watching Vic v SA and Glenn Maxwell copped a nasty bouncer from Chadd Sayers. Could hear the helmet break and pieces fall off!

Gonna be an interesting 2nd section if the pitch is doing a few things. Fingers crossed the Vics can get the job done & make it a perfect 4 from 4.

A few half track bouncers stayed down, some on a good length rose sharply thus becoming a bouncer.
Even Zampa managed to rip a few from wide outside leg to past off.

Sounds like a great batting effort then against a pretty good attack (I think they've all played for Australia in one form of the game). I think the good thing is that when you are chasing a total of around 200, it's important that as many batsmen as possible get past the 1st dozen or so balls. Considering that all 7 batsmen thus far have reached double figures, then it's mission accomplished to this point.

Maybe we can replace Wade with Harper... for Australia!!! ;)

And there it is... A great win!

Travis Head coming on to bowl sure quickened the pace of the scoring!

Handscomb is better than Wade yet the Vics persist with Wade as keeper.

Bloody good win that!
