Ridiculous. We can’t show any kind of faith in a player, unless it’s a 34 year old on his twelfth chance that has scored the 9th most runs in the Shield season at the 13th best average, and wasn’t even an incumbent to begin with.

He'll trip on his way out to bat in the first innings and miss the rest of the series. Problem solved until next summer.

Shaun Marsh. Seriously.
Is Mark Waugh our longest serving current selector? I feel like I want some of whatever the hell he's been smoking

I'd say Mark Waugh was outvoted. He would have definitely been plumping for some NSW batter that we'd never heard of.

Are the selectors on the take?

Good article. In particular, it demonstrates how bad the Paine selection is, and how shit Sheffield Shield has become, including the circumstances allowing Paine to make more runs to boost his case, whilst Nevill (why was he ever dropped?) and Carey played the way they should have played and that has counted against them. Staggering.

I doubt the selectors are on the take, they're just seriously incompetent and lacking of testicles.

Not fussed about Paine recall. Our keeper situation is a shitshow so might as well go with a left field selection.

Picking Marsh is just plain stupid. How many chances does he ****ing need.

Could be worse, Henriques used to be the go to inclusion.

I like Paine as a cricketer, but it's a seriously regressive selection. Nevill is the best keeper, why not pick him?

Is Nevill really that much better than Paine? It's a shit group to pick from.

Nevill is clearly better than Paine is now. Probably on a par with Paine at his best, before the busted finger. Which is world class.

Article doesn't even mention the real selection outrage. The dropping of Maxwell is a disgrace. Top scored in his last test innings , scored a couple of 60's and 40 odd not out in recent outings and is dropped for someone 5 years older and no better demonstrated form. Not even covered by Hohns in his press conference.

Anyhow. Weird format but the women just retained the Ashes.

Eh, I think if Bancroft bats at 6 then he would be able to keep. I'm not so sure I buy the idea that a keeper has to be a specialist who exclusively keeps all the time. Sure, that should be the case on the subcontinent, but I don't think it's as big an issue in a home series. As long as the player has kept on a reasonably frequent basis in the past then that's enough for me. I'd prefer weighting given to runs.

I know Renshaw has been poor since the Bangladesh series but personally I would have seen him retained at the top.
I'm with you KS......this pick your best keeper/catches win mantra is a little tired and outdated....mainly espoused by the likes of Healy and Marsh who couldn't bat for shit (braces for impact). Plus they're all shite with both the gloves and the bat so ideal time to develop one with a batting bias...ie Bancroft

Absolutely spot on .......for serial failure Shaun freaking Marsh no less....how long before his hammy goes? Isn't he held together with sticky tape and Tubby Taylor's chewing gum? Who does Swampy have photos of?
