Not this shit again.

After the 200, Hodge's next four innings garnered just 64 runs (at 16). It was the end of the series and selectors wanted the experience of Damien Martyn for the next series in South Africa. He did stuff all before the 200, just quietly.

Was he unlucky not to have played more tests? Yep. Should he have been dropped when he was? Absolutely.

Hodge had made a 60 and a 40 before the double so hardly "stuff all".

Renshaw deserves his test spot back over Bancroft I would’ve thought
Totally agree here.
Renshaw has was unlucky to loose his spot. Avg of 37 after only 18 innings was serviceable. Especially after 8 of those innings were in India and 4 in Bangladesh. A summer at home would of seen those stats dramatically improve. He seemed to have the head and concentration for test cricket. Given his age he could of been a 10 year + player for us. Hopefully he finds form and makes it back in.

The Aussie’s need to score runs just in case we get bowled out.
Mitch marsh blocking is akin spitta’s goal kicking
Runs won’t avoid an England win. At this stage there are 50 overs left in the day.

We just need to consume balls. A lead of 150 can be chased in 20-30 overs these days. Especially on this wicket.

Like I called it yesterday. Smith stays in and makes a courageous disciplined 100 then the Aussie survive for a draw. He goes and we are in trouble. Smith is the glue in this batting line up. Makes his partners stand taller.
Smith has pretty much looked glued to the pitch all series. Has looked impossible to get out.

Unless Smith makes a hundred I can’t see our batting line up surviving and building a sufficient platform to defend.

Today is the day for Smith to dig deep again and enter the pages of history as one of the all time greats after he saves this test match. A draw would be a win from our position.

Prescient post.

Lol the comments on the ESPN Cricinfo page....started by trying to compare Smith to Bradman (yeah nah), which of course leads to some comedy gold comparing Bradman unfavourably to Tendulkar. Always amusing.

Poor 116 overs from the Poms, not since the Battle of Britain have they relied so heavily on defence. They need wickets early on and were more interested in stopping runs.

I'd have gone alright out there today.

As far as I’m concerned, Steve Smith is ruining Test cricket. I have barracked for Australia ever since The Rebel Tour of South America. That’s when cricket was cricket. Not this hit and giggle nonsense Smith is portraying. Would he twitch like this and carry on like a porked chop if he was facing Devon Malcolm Marshall and co.? I doubt it.
Ban helmets and stop covering pitches. Then, and only then, will I roll the arm over again.

As it stands, I’d rather watch a skills video on VHS starring S Clayton and S Gibson with the song Rockabilly Rebel as the soundtrack!!!!

Funny thing is 20 years ago some of us did and at that time they were quite entertaining. Now it's a bunch of roasted middle aged dudes chanting stupid shit. Barmy Army is done and dusted.

Exactly the same as The Fanatics.

For a while (a very short while for the Fanatics) these groups would create a fantastic atmosphere at the ground/stadium and add another layer to the event.

Now they make you want to perforate your eardrums with a pitchfork.

Wish they could at least shut their traps while a batsman is facing up instead of singing a pointless unfunny song.

Plenty of time between balls and overs to get that out of their system.
