Smith has apparently just overtaken Les Hutton to take second spot in the all time batting records based on peak performance.

Only behind Bradman.

"But those two knocks not only strengthened his place atop the current Test rankings, taking his rating to 947 — some 54 points clear of second-ranked Virat Kohli of India — it also put clear air between him and the chasing pack in the race to be the best since the Don.

It means he now officially has a higher peak than anyone in the history of the game, bar Bradman.

The ICC Test batting rating is a pure performance indicator based on a variety of qualifiers such as the strength of opposition, the level of run-scoring in the match, whether they finished out or not out and whether their performances contributed to a win or not.

And Smith’s MCG masterclass lifted him two points clear of England great Len Hutton’s all-time peak of 945.

Only Bradman lies ahead on 961."

Chance for an underperforming New South Welshman to make his debut l suppose.

Sort of but maybe not a debutant.

Tubby and the NSW caterpillar crew will already have the Maddinson bobsled greased up and ready to go.

Haha ****ing Maddinson!
Maybe Ed Cowan who is batting at 6 in the NSW shield team and doing SFA.

The ch nien commentary team were just talking about how Khawaja is usually dropped for Asian tours and they mentioned a cricketer who is always called up but does nothing on Asian tours - I was waiting to hear, M. Henriques.

Anyways, the next test tour is in South Africa at the same time as an ODI series in EnZed

Will be Joe Burns - 390 runs in the last four four FC innings. No NSW batsman has scored more than 300 for the whole season.

I don't think any of Bancroft/Burns/Renshaw are good enough at the moment tbh. I'd open with Khawaja (who started his career as an opener, and has looked good at the top in shorter forms), and take this 11 to S Africa

Warner
Khawaja
Smith
S Marsh
Handscomb/Maxwell
M Marsh
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Hazelwood
Lyon

Number 5 is clearly still our biggest concern, but those two guys deserve a spot more than any of the other 3 imo

Yeah. Worth a thought.

Our batting is still heavily reliant on Smith and Warner. Everyone else is inconsistent. Problem is the cupboard is bare at state level and everyone is playing T20, so no one can get a good run at red ball cricket.

Steyn, Rabada and Morkel are in a different class to what the Poms are serving up atm. It will be a big challenge.
