Marsh should have been suspended.

Disgraceful look for cricket and him as a person.

Fines don't hurt, probably carries that amount in his wallet. Suspensions do hurt.

Sam is disappointed but accepts it.
Umpire was terrible - potentially affecting the result of the game - and should be suspended for it.

Marsh made a mistake in the heat of the moment, is disappointed in himself, has copped his whack and we should all move on.

Absolute bullshit.

No one would ever be an umpire if suspended if get a decision wrong.

Your opinion is as ridiculous as Marsh's abuse and frankly disgraceful and disrespectful behaviour.

But Marsh just made a mistake in the heat if the moment, just like your mate.

But one should be suspended and the other, it gets waved off because, well, shit happens.

Did my mate disgrace the game like Marsh did?

He made a decision. Thats his job. Unfortunately he got it wrong.

Marsh had every right to be upset but his behavior has no place in any sport and he should have been suspended.

Guy is a self entitled , cocky dickhead based off a surname.

Marsh didn't cop a whack for making a mistake. Wafting at a ball way down leg when he could've just left it to take the wide was a mistake. Showing serious and sustained dissent to the umpire's decision is unacceptable and he was lucky to get away with a $5k fine, in my opinion.

The suggestion to suspend an umpire is just silly. If he consistently gets decisions wrong then drop him to a lower level but you don't hang a guy for one call.

I actually don't think the umpire's decision was a howler. The bat was out there and there was definitely a woody sounding noise. No snicko or hotspot so we will never know for sure.

If Marsh was the bowler would he have called the bloke back...No chance ! If he had feathered it but given not out would he have walked ...No Chance !

Its cricket. You have to accept it because you get the rough with the smooth

He should be way better than that

It is a silly suggestion and you'll notice I was using similar language to describe the actions and response to the Choppy's mate and Mitch Marsh, but inverted them to make a point.

The point being that we often let off one group of people for making mistakes - these things happen, he didn't mean it, etc - but the other group gets shafted for simply making a mistake in the heat of battle. Mitch Marsh is a senior player, in an important part of the game, in the middle of a good season, and probably thought "I can do something really good here and get my team into the final", and then was given out when he clearly didn't hit the ball. His reaction was entirely understandable, and one assumes that's why the penalty wasn't greater.

And I know Choppy is defending his mate, and good on him for doing so, but like it or not, it may have changed the result of the game. So while dropping umpires may seem harsh, I ask you, how do we help umpires get better? West Indian umpire Joel Wilson had three decisions in one over overturned on DRS in a world cup lead-up game and is still on the ICC elite umpire panel, for instance.

I can't help but be bemused by your demanding of respect for your cricket umpire mate and getting on your high horse about people criticising him, yet you won't extend the same level of respect to our football club captain and make regular unsupportable criticisms of his captaincy.

I am not surprised you are bemused considering the two topics are completely unrelated.

Sam is an excellent umpire.

Join the dots on why the two topics are unrelated hence not hypocritical at all.

You see, I could state my view that he's a really shit umpire and that he shouldn't get another game. I'd allege that he had only one job and he failed it dismally, so obviously he's not up to the job. The results prove my point.

Hey, he might be a great bloke, but he's a rubbish umpire and he shouldn't be umpiring.

Then I'd state this same view a few times a week, even if he hasn't umpired since.

You see, I could state my view that he's a really sh*t umpire.

Well that wouldn't be true though.

My comments on Jack are true.

So really what you are saying makes no logical sense.

I do love hearing an argument about Jack Ziebell on me cricket thread
