First class batting average of just under 36. There are blokes who have been in and out of the national team recently with FC averages worse than that - and they aren't even wicketkeepers.

He doesn’t pass the eye test. His batting looks shaky, he has a poor temperament, and his keeping has been poor. I was probably harsh on calling him the worst ever, but he’s pretty awful.

My post probably wasn't clear enough.

Patto loves to think of himself as an all-rounder, but he chucks his wicket frequently!

And yes Starc was awful all match.

If Australia was playing Test match next week - against anyone, at any venue - would Starc be picked?

He can certainly hold the stick. His innings today was exactly what was needed. If he went early big chance we lose.

Would he be picked? Very likely.

Should he be picked on form the last few months including this match? No.

I reckon if it was on the sub-continent - on a Chennai India/England pitch he'd definitely miss out. If it were in NZ, Eng, SAf or WI it would be 50/50 if Richardson or Pattinson or Neser were fit. If it were here he'd be bowling the 0.1 ball.

IF Australia were playing on an Indian/Sri Lankan dust bowl next week Swepson would play ahead on Starc. The Bus Change would play as an allrounder. Head would be back ahead of Wade but they'd consider Maxwell.

Its the walking towards the bowler with the bat raised bit that's annoying. He's in no danger from my slow mediums floating down like autumn leaves though !

Pineapple lumps (thats what they're called here)...love em !
A sorry attempt at cultural appropriation.

Forget the pineapple lumps, chocolate fish are the bomb.

This stadium is unbelievable. Crawley looking the goods so far too, fingers crossed he makes a big score

Unsure you want your #8 averaging just 8 in test cricket... That's a mighty long tail the Poms have there.

By the look of him, we might have been lucky that Axar wasn't playing against us.

Don't think Axar would have done as well over here with the extra bounce and little spin.

He is perfect for their pitches. His accuracy and consistency makes him hard to get away. With his round arm action, coming left arm around the wicket and zeroing in on the stumps some skid and some spin keeping the batsmen in two minds. All his dismissals have been LBW or bowled.

England's rest and rotate selection policy has been alright so far, but this is another reason Moeen would have been handy here.

Seriously, India's 2nd XI would challenge anyone away and win most series at home.

If England could set a decent 4th innings target, as the only spinner in the side, Leach could end with Laker like figures!

Nek minnut, Joe Root has 3 for none.

This game will be over in the 1st session tomorrow the way things are heading.
