Who'd have thought that the "#1 bowler in the world" wouldn't have a clue how to bowl to a number 11?

Well, good on Stokes, deserved to finish on the winning side after that effort, but that is horrendous from Australia. Talk about rudderless and inept. Terrible captaincy, terrible bowling and terrible fielding when it counted.
Yep. People will bleat about the umpiring being shit but it should never have got to the stage where it could even be a factor.

I guess I just feel fortunate that I saw Australia as the best team in the world for a decade or so. It’ll never happen again. The last decade or so has been the odd good performance mixed in with hilariously shit hold my beer moments and a whole lot of unjustified swagger. Best bowling attack in the world - Haha.

The ashes are alive because of one man , fu** u T.Paine . And our Quicks haven't got a brain between them .
The batsmen have a fair bit to answer for as well though. 280 and batting more time in that second dig would’ve shut the gate completely. 360 on a flat wicket with two days to play wasn’t impossible. Terrific innings from Stokes even moreso given he was just about their key bowler in the second innings as well.

From the moment we had them 9 down ,our Bowling , fielding and Captaincy went to shit . Credit to Stokes for taking them to a win , and yes our batting without Smith has been ordinary , but there is no way we should have lost that game.

We are in elite company. Melbourne Football Club and Australian cricket team fans. More lethal to your health than a speedball.
I also vote Labor, support Rangers and enjoyed the television series Game of Thrones. Cue Curb Your Enthusiasm theme. Watta time to be alive.

We bowled like hot garbage throughout the innings and Stokes finally got bored of hanging around with partners that were going to hand us the win. Won’t see many individual performances in team sports like that one, was better than his once in a lifetime World Cup final knock

The ultimate indignity after watching the game unfold like that is to have Buddy Mark Taylor and Scary Spice knockoff attempt to provide expert analysis. Rage quit, TV off, straight to bed.

And then lie awake for an hour with said rage. I'm surprised my pillow didn't burst into flames.

Mel Jones and Sthalaker are alright in my opinion but they’re better ball by ball callers than expert analysts. They also haven’t been given the time like Isa Guha or Alison Mitchell to become more competent and confident as broadcasters. That said, it’s hard yards working with Channel 9’s zombie crew. Chappell looks ill and he’s probably the best of a bad bunch. Healy = lol.

Taylor was probably the best Australian captain in my lifetime but he sucks as a commentator. It’s ironic that Ponting who I viewed as quite a mediocre captain is a brilliant commentator and analyst.

Both Taylor and Ponting look like geniuses as Captains compared to the current skipper .

Now the dust has settled I can't help but love Stokes' innings. Probably the best I've ever watched live.

I love the way he farmed the strike perfectly. I loved how waved away the applause at 100. I loved the emotion of physically not being able to watch Leech block out the final few balls. Just the ultimate team player and the ultimate clutch player. Not to mention he bowled like 25 straight overs in the game to get England back into it.

I hate England as much as the next guy but Stokes is a bloody legend (on the field at least).

I feel the same. I almost feel he is an honorary Australian what with the coward punching and everything. Only difference is that he can bat.

The most painful thing about his innings could be yet to come. “Stokes killed us in the last test. We need an all rounder who can bowl 130kph and hit a long ball. Let’s get Mitchell Marsh in the team!”

Its a shame we just don't have a genuine test quality all rounder. It's a gaping big hole in our test team IMO

They're both rubbish, but to be fair, Jones is significantly more rubbish.

Agree re: Taylor - feels like he's literally been platituded into insensibility and can no longer say anything remotely relevant. Press button A for back-slapping camaraderie, press button B for jovial optimism, press button C for fond reminiscing, etc etc etc. Says nothing interesting despite the fact he should be one of the best placed people to comment on what's going right and wrong at the moment. He really is woeful.

Healy in the same camp except when he's commenting on a keeper.

As an aside, like most technology in sport, hasn’t DRS done a great job of removing the howler rather than adding a whole new level of human incompetence into the mix?

Makes sense when you think about it. At the moment, players and umpires can get decisions wrong. All they've done with DRS and similar systems is provided another layer and more opportunity to get things wrong.

I'd have some sympathy for us if that LBW shout was even a 1% chance of being given. Wasn't even a gamble though, it was just a sign of complete desperation. I do agree with Stokes though; I'm surprised ball tracking showed the culprit from Lyon hitting the stumps. Looked to be going down leg to me.
