So, another season started.

SOS is now 11 and is still not batting well (he will get there, I am reprogramming his desire to cross bat every ball through the arc of mid on to mid off) but the kid is a natural leg spinner. Go figure, why pick something easy when you can choose leg spin.

He has taken the spin out at the moment as he wants to land the ball and I get it, start landing the ball and then turn two out of six and the world is your oyster. For context, when he is spinning the ball he can land it on a hard wicket a metre outside leg and hit off, it is ridiculous and I still see a year or two following him around the world when he gets a baggy green.

He bowled 3 overs 1-10 with 3 dropped catches yesterday, 2 of them were so easy you wanted to yell at the keeper but you know, kids. Still, was really happy seeing him land 18 balls with that action and bowling their best player (for context, that guy was running the ball off the face of his bat through slips and gully...I wish I could play that shot...,little bastard, I was in awe of some of his shots, made the game look easier than it should.

Our club has had a transformation with a whole bunch of seniors leaving, which meant that some of us, much older folk, have had to step up a level, so we can get our 14 year olds into a decent comp. The kids did really well and at the end of our bowling, we had them with a 146 run lead. I bowled OK, took a wicket, should have maybe had a few more but some dropped catches hurt. We finished off well when the innings looked like getting away from us, with the juniors stepping up.

Somehow, I am opening the batting and I was going OK until I hit a pull shot from the splice of my bat. Some would say that a few sessions of practice would have had my eye in...and they'd be correct but here I was, walking to the sheds with 8 to my name. Luckily, my opening partner Abe took his score from 3 from 25 deliveries to 69 from 47, in a bit of a game changing hitting session. Along with some great batting from the juniors, we got over the line, first up victory and those kids know they belong.

Give it a few more matches and I can see them saying "old man, you're not opening, let better players do it" and i will have to turn to Abe and go "I think they're talking to you"
