Thread needs its own crisis meeting.
Oh, look, this is awkward, but we had a crisis meeting. Only selected BF Board leaders were invited though.

Good news is, we agreed it wasn't good enough, had a forensic review of where the thread's gone off the rails, and we're expecting a big improvement.

We haven't played a decent game in Adelaide since... I can't remember the last decent game we played there.
Basically, nothing in the past decade.

Before that we had Arch's 250th, the night Drew broke the world record for contested marks and the final round of 1999 when we flogged the Crows as we steamrolled towards the flag.

In summary: Adelaide can GAGF.

Back on The Huddle for a second....

Would this be the kind of thing that State and Federal Governments could use to justify handing over large parcels of land to a Football Club?

Because the Bulldogs just received a $16 million dollar block previously earmarked for residential property and I hear there is a decent size development taking place in the Arden Precinct.
There'd want to be a fair degree of rigour around any process involving the handing over of Crown Land at a non market rate.

It's silly virtue signalling bullshit that perpetuates the myth that certain races, genders and persons of certain sexual proclivities are still victims, and it plays to a vacuous society that is overflowing with fake wankers. If you're a female, gay, aboriginal, then you're not special, you're just another person.

Sure, our club drinks heartily from this well of bullshit, but it's the AFL's well.
Indeed, just another person.

That's why there have been a recent upswing in people abusing white people because of the colour of their skin on social media. That's why men constantly get told that they shouldn't play footy because of their gender, and attract ridicule when they do play because of their gender. That's why prominent sports people are coming out saying that straight people deserve to suffer for eternity because of their sexual orientation, and other prominent sportspeople across codes are endorsing that message.

Yep, just another person.

Just harden up and tell them to go **** themselves, which is what these supposed "victims" should be doing in this contemporary era.

I mean, your response reads to me as being completely ridiculous. Where is this great attack on peoples color or gender occurring? Spare me the bullshit. Social media has turned extreme statistical outliers in to a multi billion dollar industry of bullshit.

I can only make two logical assumptions

1) You're neurotic
2) You have made a personal career out of this drivel.

You're completely incapable of seeing anything from anyone else's worldview, aren't you?

Nope, I just don't believe that sparse incidents are worthy of entire social movements, which are then utilised by low intelligence, infantile, emotional midgets. It has lead to the faux empowerment of complete and utter stupidity.

Drew was drafted in 2000.

Mate, we get it, there was plenty of inequality and oppression in the world over the centuries, but hey, do yourself a favor, look around and smell the roses. We have moved past all that crap and complaining about everything is now an industry in itself. What you are doing right now is buying into it, exactly how the media and "action" groups would want you to. But there is no need to completely tip the world upside down and start again - the world is a better place than it's ever been and people should harden up and stop making excuses. The ones that do exactly that are living enjoyable and successful lives.

Back to football, it has been one of the best things this country has invented. And while it had some issues, like off the ball sniping and racism, both on the terraces and on the playing field, both have now been cleaned up. Can we just move on now and enjoy the game? Or do we need to continue with the whinging until each club is required to field a minimum quota of three women on the field and have at least 5 homosexual players on the list? Is that where it needs to get?

I don't have younger children so I hadn't paid attention but it seems silly to keep the name of a retired player on a kids package - nostagia is great for adults, but kids should have a xurrent player to watch and look up to. The sad part is I would have no idea who that current player could be, apart from Ben Brown, and it can't always be him.
This is 100% true. I have 2 kids in the formerly known Harvey's Heroes and one son only knows who that is because I named him Harvey (yes, on purpose) while my other one doesnt know any North Melbourne players other than Majak and Ben Brown.

I love Harvey more than any other North player in history but i can also completely understand why they dont name the kids membership after him now its 3 years since he retired. I would hope however that they introduce a top tier membership named after him.

Not sure why we need to say the world is as good as could be now, or at any point in the past or future, and stop trying to make it better for those who aren't as lucky - yes, luck still plays trhe biggest part - as we are. This is a footy board, though, and around here the whinges seem to be all one way. It would be great if everyone could help contain it so it doesn't infest every conversation.

I respect your view, but I disagree with it. From all reports we are currently spending up to the soft cap on football department spending, and our facilities have been upgraded to a very high standard. In short the players want for nothing and have no excuses. The only area where we are not spending the full amount is in TPP. But that is payed by the AFL and we are banking the extra for later.

If we are not spending the soft cap in the right way, it is at least not being detracted by the spend in other areas, like the huddle.

While I agree with you the football team and the football department sole responsability is win the games, the football club as whole has always had an essential element of community. My dad was born in Kensington, his brother even played a handfull of games for North, and it has always been about the community, keeping it strong and supporting each other. That is where the Shinboner spirit came from, the working class people, sticking together, supporting each other and if we lost making sure the others bloody well earned it.

The huddle formalises our community engagement, we actually do it, unlike some other clubs who just say they do, it opens avenues in government and other areas as well.

So while it is not enough to just have the huddle and community engagement. It is a seperate entity to the football department, who lack for nothing, espcially when compared to facilites the team in the 90's had
Correct. More money would not have improved our drafting over the last 10 years, or our current coaching structure or game plan. Our issues are not financial, and to attack a successful social program under the guise of improving our on field results is disingenuous.

Simple answer is, by trying to make it better for those not as lucky, you're not guaranteed to make it better at all. An example being, getting rid of sexual harassment which is most definitely a great achievement. But try and push it any further and you create a bucket of frivolous claims that destroys careers of people like Geoffrey Rush and others.

Same goes for LGBT - the fact it's perfectly legal is great. The fact that de facto rights apply as per the rest of society, great but we don't stop there. Legislate for gay marriage - you'd think now we have full equality. But no, we now introduce education about homosexuality to primary schools and allow sex change to kids way before their adult age. Not old enough to have sex legally, but old enough to have a sex change? Why not! And we aren't stopping here. Now we want quotas for women at workplaces, quotas for indigenous people, and on we go. Never mind about being the best fit for the role? No, we are more interested in "equalizing" for the sake of equalizing.

Is it about making the world a better place? I reckon it's far past this point, but most people who support all that certainly mean well, but where that takes us is another question.

Sometimes leaving things as they are is a much better solution, but it's far too late for that.
