I can’t think of anything I care about less across all AFL awards and recognitions than the All-Australian captain. Seriously, who the hell cares?

And fwiw, the team is based on a hypothetical team playing one game, and one night out with Buddy and getting absolutely ****ed up sounds far more inspirational and motivating than a nice night in with Hurny.

It's a useless award.

But then it gets talked up like crazy by the media.

So all of a sudden it isn't a useless award.

And now I'm angry.

It shouldn't exist. If it is to exist it should probably go to a captain if there is one in the side. Particularly if his side has defied preseason expectations and finished second on the ladder.

Reading thw above posts everyone's missed the point of a an all Australian team that actually doesn't play anyone.Its all about the reward.Buddy has been all Australian 8 times.He deserves to be Captain more so than anyone else.

That's not relevant to begin with, as the All-Australian team is for the singular year that was 2018.

But if you want to talk grand finals, he was the only player in 2014 who actually showed up and did his job and in 2016 he played the entire game after injuring his ankle in the first 10 minutes.

Can’t you just celebrate that a West Australian is the AA captain.

The criteria they used this year seems based on experience as in the number of times he’s been AA.

It’s a nominal position in nominal team. Why do there have to be set criteria.

FWIW, twenty years ago, before club “leaders” were expected to spend hours in meetings and front the media day after day, club captains were invariably the best player on the team, one who inspired his team mates. Hard to argue against Franklin’s onfield presence or ability to inspire his team mates.
