Cronulla. Pride

any way you look at it, and any way you or anybody else sees lebs, wogs or whoever, and whatever the history of whatever group, the end result was a bunch of drunk thugs beating up random innocent people.

anyone who is proud of that happening in their country is a ********ing ******** head.

its a ********ing disaster and a national disgrace.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak up, because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak up, because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me, and there was noone left to speak up for me.

IN my opinion this was a proud day for all of us. Standing up against the rapists and thugs that walked the beaches. I tip my hat of to the proud Aussies who walked that day.

Other thoughts?
I'm so proud that I bought a flag and draped myself in it. I hear that 'One Nation' is looking for a new leader - could I be their man?

Seriously though, grow up. Seeing the footage brought to mind images that come out of Germany occasionally of the hard (nazi) right. That isn't Australian.

You are in serious denial if you believe its a national disgrace...........what about housing and health among aboriginals........overpaid sportsmen .......politicians on the take and spending taxpayers moneys like turning a tap on........the disgrace of our heath, education and law enforcement departments, i could go on but i am sure you get the picture.

There are many more important things than some riot in cronulla where as far as i am aware no one was killed let alone seriously injured.

The blackfellas riot up in northern towns much more seriously than this trumped up one.
Thank you Mr Katter. How is your electorate shaping up?

What did the protesters at Cronulla that day want?

1.To stop the further downgrading of the local police station
2.More police in Cronulla to stop the 3-5yrs of racist, bigotted and misogynistic attacks
3.For the perpetrators of these attacks to stay away from Cronulla

After it was all said and done and the three day intifada, what happened?

1.More police in Cronulla
2.The attacks have stopped
3.The racist, bigotted and misogynistic thugs are staying away

The authorities had done nothing up until Dec11 2005

So you think that Cronulla reflected well upon Australia? The ends do not justify the means.
With the authorities sitting on their hands while a group terrorized the Cronulla area for 3-5 yrs
What do you think was going to happen?

I am not excusing the drunks who ran amock
But the original idea for the protest

I have no issues with peaceful protest. Sadly, the images I saw from Cronulla were not of a peaceful protest, hence I can't give it a :thumbsu: like the OP.

I could dig up an old thread of mine that included 40+ pics taken in Cronulla on Dec11
With no violence and a multicultural crowd

That's the thing, terrorized the area for 3 -5 years, please post all media reports of said attacks, what set it off was the cowardly & uncalled for attack on the lifeguards, which was a disgrace, but I keep hearing this 3 -5 years of rape, bashing etc, yet no reports in the paper, please post all the articles to back up these claims.

Go for it, but I am guessing, they will just be the people who went there not knowing there was going to be an idiot invasion. Or are you saying, that everyone at Cronulla that day were there for the rally? OOPS guess someone forgot to tell the innocents who got bashed, that the only people in Cronulla that day were there for the rally.

You're just making stuff up.

What did the protesters at Cronulla that day want?

1.To stop the further downgrading of the local police station
Not true. It started off with people wanting Lebs out and quickly spread to include racist white supremicist groups who wanted all not whites out.

There were no text messages going around saying anything about lack of police.

2.More police in Cronulla to stop the 3-5yrs of racist, bigotted and misogynistic attacks
Also not true. Firstly it's at least 15 years of anti social behaviour by young lebanese males. Once again there was no mention of lack of police.

3.For the perpetrators of these attacks to stay away from Cronulla
Actually, it was anyone who was Lebanese whether they were a perpetrator or not.

You need to get your facts right.

You seemed to think they were

"IF anyone went their with peaceful intentions, surely once they saw people getting drunk, wearing swastikas & carrying racist slogans, they would have left, knowing that it was going to turn nasty. But keep believing they were just concerned citizens with nothing but good intentions, if that helps you sleep better at night."

Surely anyone who was not there for the rally would have left once they saw people getting drunk, wearing swastikas and carrying racist slogans (you know all those innocent people just doing their shopping).

Mantis, get your head out of the sand. Been happening regularly for at least 15 years. I've seen it many times. Although I've never had a problem, I know plenty of young guys who have been either robbed or picked by groups of young Leb males. My partner has also been called a sl ut because she rebuffed their sleazy advances whilst swimming at The Wall (one of Cronulla's beaches). They have an arrogant ******** you attitude that rubs the average multi cultural Aussie up the wrong way.

And they're not just a problem around Cronulla. Too many of them are brazen violent criminals right across Sydney.

I don't bull******** or exagerate and I'm not one to swallow down media hype. This is fact. If you still want to deny then there's nothing I can really say.

what set it off was the cowardly & uncalled for attack on the lifeguards, which was a disgrace,
Whilst a disgrace, I don't think it was a good enough reason to hold a drunken racist yobbo rally. The rally was responsible for the whole episode. Should never of happened.

but I keep hearing this 3 -5 years of rape, bashing etc, yet no reports in the paper, please post all the articles to back up these claims.
Once again, I've lived here for over 10 years. Been happening all of that time and longer.

I walked past the Caringbah Hotel the night before the rally. There were drunk skippy yobbos yelling out to others walking past "yeah, let's smash these Lebs, tell them to f*** off back to Bankstown" etc. I just shook my head. I was disgusted.

There was no way I was going anywhere near it and I'm reasonably sure the only ones concerned were business owners who were losing business (and fair enough).

I drove down to the beach at a 6pm to have a look. I saw a yobbo and his attractive girlfriend walking along a street with a picket. Tossers.

I know I felt ashamed and embarrassed by the actions of some of the "protestors". I can also recognise that, like all arguments, there is always two sides to the story.

Are/were (?) there young males of Lebanese decent causing trouble in the Cronulla area - Yes

Were there moronic racist white bread Aussies bashing innocent people - Yes

The best thing to do would be to marginalise both extremes and ensure that their thinking does not become mainstream.

I also don’t buy the argument that this is strictly a Lebanese problem. Young male Greeks, Italians, Asians, Aussies all parade in drunken groups abusing women.

My ex-partner was attacked (luckily she escaped by kneeing one of them in the jaw) by 3 obviously Greek males outside an Adelaide nightclub. I am aware of numerous other examples of non-Lebanese Ethnic males attempting similar. Go to The Vic on a Saturday or Friday night for examples.

What about the abundance of sexual assault coming from the football community? Where is the “protest” of these actions. I expect the people that rocked up to Cronulla to do the same outside the next Swans home game ? …..

Much more prevelant with the Lebanese.

Just because it happens all over doesn't mean you should ignore the problem where it's worst.

When my partner goes down the beach she doesn't get leered at and have disgusting remarks made at her by anyone else. I've even been with Lebs when they carry on like this. The way many of them think and act towards Aussie women is just wrong and unacceptible.

Not Swans fans I’m afraid. They tend to be a sedate bunch. The locals probably follow the Sharks, while the lebs follow Canterbury. I had to say I was pretty annoyed with them after the Bulldogs got up over the Roosters. They came down to Bondi, waved their flag, beeped their horns until 1am, and carried on like knobs. And the should have known better, most people in Bondi don’t follow league. In fact, most aren’t even Australian.

I often wondered whether Sydney has more racial and class problems because it doesn’t have a football code like Aussie Rules to unite everyone. The westies follow league, northerners follow union, and then there are the transients that follow afl or soccer. People don’t play sport together, or talk about sport together etc.

Much more prevalent with the Lebanese.
In Sydney, in recent times, sure, but immigrant sexual violence (and other criminality for that matter) has been around since, well, the start of immigration. Call it one of the negatives of Multiculturalism I guess.

Just because it happens all over doesn't mean you should ignore the problem where it's worst.
Absolutely. There should have been something done a lot earlier, what that might have entailed I am not sure.

It is wrong and unacceptable, on all fronts.

It's funny, when my partner goes down to the beach the exact same thing happens but it's usually Greeks (although down south its often Aussie bogans), I have also been with Greeks and Aussies when they do this.

My point is, I don't think there is anything in the Lebanese culture or mindset that is dramatically different to other drunken male groups or immigrant communities.

Perhaps. Although AFL teams still have their ethic ties. Dont make me post the Richmond grog squad chant about Carlton ;).

I don't know much about league, is it similar to Soccer in that regard?
